Please do not quote- I may delete this later.
Here is the situation-My inlaws are needing help and we are considering moving our mobile home to their property. Living on the adjoining property is a man who killed his girlfriend and completed his prison sentence. He is now on parole. My FIL thinks he is perfectly safe and is trying to convince me of my safety in living there.
Do you think you would feel safe in this situation?

No, I can't see myself doing that. I'm pretty OCD about not sharing germs in the kitchen. If I taste the food while I am cooking it, I get a fresh spoon for each taste.

Once every five days, I chop up a huge bowl of the following: cucumber, yellow squash, zucchini, radishes, carrots, celery, turnips, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, purple cabbage, mushrooms, grape tomatoes, garbanzo beans, raisins, and bell pepper. Dh eats it plain.

I would go in. The student teaching will put enough stress on you-you want to feel your best. Good luck with the student teaching and I hope you are feeling great by then.

I generally buy Hanes Her Way from Dollar General. They last a long time and are all cotton.

Dh will be heading out for work in the morning, and college boy went home Friday. I think I will make cabbage and smoked sausage and open a can of hoppin john for myself. I wouldn't normally cook when they are gone, but tradition demands it.🙄

Well, so far only one kitchen mishap that I know of-my toffee is sticking to our teeth. I think I didn't cook it long enough. I need to make the lasagna. The marinara is made and in the car trunk because I didn't have room in the fridge. Need to boil the pasta and cook the meat, then assemble. I am making two, so it will be quite the production with all the layers. Green beans and corn are ready, just need to be warmed.
We always have cheese grits and shrimp on Christmas day, and I forgot to buy the ingredients for it. So that means a stop today before the stores close.

I am only cooking for 7 and will have a little help. We don't do a big gift exchange. DS opened his gift when he brought it in off the porch-but he already knew what it was. He opened his stocking a few days ago, because he is going back to his apartment in another city on the 28th. I wanted him to have time to enjoy the treats while he was here. His stocking has contained candy for the last few years.
I plan to make a pecan pie and cherry cream cheese pie tomorrow. Also will make raspberry cream cheese coffee cake and toffee. I think that will be it for the sweets. I will make a corn dish and green beans and put the lasagna together ready to bake.

@hornblower, so sorry about the UTI. I have to take daily antibiotics to prevent them. They are awful. I always cringe when I hear someone has one, so I’m cringing for you. Huge (((Hugs))). So glad you are also doing better now (with exception of uti).
Ds’ gf and I did our baking 2 days ago and have a bunch of cookies in the freezer. We were going to do divinity and fudge today but it’s wet and nasty outside so we’ll put it off until the humidity is lower.
I went to the grocery store yesterday (small town grocer instead of Walmart or Kroger like I usually do— much less busy) and got enough to get us through Christmas. Except!!!! I’m out of coffee. 😫 Kroger is the only place who carries my brand sooooooooo tomorrow it’ll be a quick (ha!) trip there to stock up.
My parents will come Christmas Eve and go back that night. Well have Christmas Day to ourselves and dh and I *might* take off for a couple days to get away. He is off until the following wednesday.
Presents are bought, wrapped, and ready. I am ready for December 26. The holidays are stressful for me.
Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!
Kroger is the only store that carries the coffee we like too. Might it be Spotlight?

We always do a simple soup and bread bowls for Christmas Eve. But we don't have a real tradition for Christmas day. I am leaning towards all appetizers, but I'm worried that there will come a point when we all look around and say "what's for dinner". My dh is deployed this year, so I want to keep things very simple but also special for my two kids at home. Maybe a small ham with some mashed potatoes from the freezer section (is there such a thing? I really don't want to peal and boil and smash potatoes, but I am morally opposed to potato flakes...) along with some easy finger foods.
If you can find Crystal Farms mashed potatoes, they are really good. They are refrigerated and just need to be heated in the microwave. They are usually with Crystal Farms Simply Potatoes hash browns-which are also delicious.

Adding my prayers to all the rest.

Count me as another old timer with a new name/account. I was Debbi in Arkansas, later Debbi in Texas. However my post count never was very high. I'm a retired homeschooler.

I actually agree that fresh would be better. The recipe called for canned is why I bought them. For Christmas I will probably go ahead and get fresh.
-
My son requested green bean bundles for Thanksgiving. The recipe I use calls for 4 cans, so I purchased Del Monte whole green beans. Never again. There were four or five whole beans in the can and the rest were cut like regular cut green beans.
Have you had luck with any other brands?

Actually, I think she calls it a duster. Does anyone else call it that?

Kudos to your dh and family. I have never heard of this bus situation. I wonder if they come through my neck of Texas?
Would you feel unsafe in this situation?

There was a drug bust and after serving the sentence for that, he killed the informant. My inlaws bought the property while he was in prison, but he has been out probably around 5 years. That's just a guess.
