Sing to the tune of "My Darlin' Clementine."
There are twelve months,
There are twelve months,
There are twelve months in a year.
January, February,
March and April,
May and June.
July and August,
Then September,
And there's fun October too.
November then December
That's the twelve months,
Now we're through.

We don't have the devotionals, but he's a wonderful speaker. We enjoyed hearing him last year and have some CDs of his lectures which are more like story time. He has a very conservative, Providential view of history.

Thank you very much!

I can't find ds's Bear Hug Brochure for AWANA Cubbies. If you have one, would you please send me the verses? Thank you.

It's not a curriculum, but Chemistry for Every Kid by Janice VanCleave has some great, easy to do experiments.

I plan on trying Ambleside for art and music appreciation.

It's a part of The Homeschool Lounge, but you have to pay for it. Child accounts are attached to a parent's account. I haven't really looked into it because I don't think my oldest is ready for that kind of thing.

I agree with the Trader Joe cookies. They are far superior to Oreos. I'm counting the days until the Candy Cane Joe Joe's come back. Mmmm.

We used FLL first and then transitioned into R&S 3. Works for us.

For some reason "pew Bible" gets on my nerves. Every Sunday the pastor would give the scripture reference and then state the page number for the pew Bible. It was even worse when he would say "page ## in the blue pew Bible."

If you're the handy type, you could build some rain gutter shelves. Here's an article on how to do it.

My daughter has some in her room, but she keeps her stuffed animals in them instead of books. It's an afternoon project and relatively cheap.

Science Experiments You Can Eat by Vicki Cobb is a good book. It does a decent job of explaining the concepts, but it doesn't have a master supply list.

I received one of those NC DNPE letters requesting inspection. They mostly went to second year homeschoolers. I was supposed to call and either make an appointment or decline the meeting. I was within my rights to decline with no threats to maintaining my legal status. I chose to go. Here is what happened.
1. It was at the public library--not a police station. Meeting at the police station was the DNPE's very bad idea from last year. After many, many complaints and a polite, but firm letter from the HSLDA, they agreed that a library was a better location.
2. The only required items were immunization records, attendance sheets, and standardized test scores from the last school year. Those items are required by law anyway. The DNPE has the right to come to your home to see those same items. They suggested bringing the children, curriculum, samples, etc, but they made no requirement.
3. It took all of 5 minutes. I showed the DNPE worked the required items. She checked me off. I was on my way. There were no probing questions or value judgments. I did not bring my children. The meeting was painless.
I chose to attend the voluntary inspection because they only wanted to see what I'm required to have anyway. I would much rather go to the library than have them show up on my doorstep. I would have declined to answer any "non required" questions and I had my HSLDA card and cell phone handy if needed.

Hi, I don't post much because of my extra slow dial-up connection, but I have a question.
My dd 8 is having difficulty determining which syllable in a word receives the accent. Her reading is fine. She understand's what an accent mark does in a dictionary respelling. She just can't figure out which syllable to mark when she has exercises on accents in spelling.
I don't have a good explanation beyond "Which part of the word sounds strongest?" Is this really a necessary skill? Do I have permission to let this go? She is a perfectionist, and it frustrates her that she doesn't understand this.
Thanks for any help.

I've been married for 14 years and we have 3 highly energeitic children: dd 8, ds 4, dd 2. One of my best friends introduced me to The Well Trained Mind about 4 years ago. The same friend let me know about the message boards. I've lurked for almost a year. I have really slow dial-up internet so I probably won't post much.
My oldest is in third grade. We use Explorer's Bible Study, Singapore Math 3B, SOTW Middle Ages, God's Design Science (Weather), Italic d, Rod and Staff Grammar, and Writing Tales. We read books from the SonLight and Veritas Press reading lists.

I'm new here. I lurked on the old boards:o, but never posted. Let's see if this works.
Doe anyone LIKE the tropical fruit punch that is served at weddings...

I hate wedding punch, but around here it's green and made with lime sherbet. Yuck. My mother made me have it at my wedding because everyone always has the green wedding punch. Then my sister had a choice of iced tea (sweet and unsweetened), lemonade, or water at her wedding. My mother didn't seem to have a problem with it.:glare:
