  1. I'm a dental hygienist.

My son needed a filling when he was 5 1/2. He had nitrous(he was very nervous...) He vomited. I assisted and I am sure he was not over sedated. The office is right, kids do sometimes throw up after. It can depend on if they just ate.

I would seriously prefer a gen dentist to a ped dentist almost in all situations. Why? I have seen the 5-10 min fillings and the 10 min stainless crowns that come out of these offices. At every ped office I know, the cleaning appointments are only 15 min!! I have friends(also hygienists) who have become so frustrated that they were not allowed enough time to do a good job.

  2. Thanks Janet,

Hey things could be a lot worse, I mean really they can, it is just a hassle is all, but at the end of the day I have my girls to hug and a husband who is wonderful. Good to put things into prespective!

I think like another poster stated SL could be losing money right now from potential buyers just from reading this thread, and it really show what kind of company they are, in my opinion...one not to be trusted

I also want to stress that I "do" believe Sonlight to be a great company(as does my family who uses and many friends). I believe you feel wronged and I do not want to diminish that. I would not expect an answer to your code issue tonight. I do not think moderators can fix those things.

    Blessings

  3. They sent me a $50 coupon code instead of refunding my books, so yes, I was going to take it.

I have the books listed for sale, but you know how that goes...

I had to pay SL for them to return the so called damaged books, so I have spent alot in shipping alone back and forth

I truely am sorry you are going through this. I mean that. I am not denying your frustration. I would have taken it the credit and used it, too. It pretty much (over) compensates you for shipping. So now you have books you don't want. They also gave you compensation for the books that were damaged due to the iron filings, right? I agree it is a lot of hassle. Not a fun way to spend the summer!

  4. I think it is because she is out the money it took to ship the books to SL. She is out the money it took to ship the books from SL back to her. She is also stuck with books she doesn't want and a credit fro more books from a company that she doesn't want to do business with. And if she wants to try to recoup the lost money, she'll have to do even more work to sell the books that she doesn't want.

    Heck, I'd be mad too.

She's still out $90 plus shipping there and back, plus the aggravation.

I am still shocked that she had to pay to get SL to return the books back to her. That just floors me. :001_huh: That is bold!

How did they make you pay?? By cc? Really? Or they were going to hold the books??

She obviosly IS doing business with them by using the code. I undersatand being frustrated, but I also understand being proactive in recouping my money! I would be listing those books RIGHT NOW!(But that's just me...)

  5. I guess I don't understand?? You have the books and $50 credit?? You could sell the books(if they indeed have minor dings) for 70-80% of the cost on the used board. They also credited you $60 for the iron filing fiasco?? I'm sure those books are still useable. You could sell those, too.(maybe not for 70-80%)

I'm just trying to understand. I have never had anything but positive experiences with SL(returns and otherwise) I have talked with CS lots of times. I ordered book labels($.90) They sent the wrong size and overnighted the labels to me. It cost them $5.00 to send that package. I called 1 year after I bought a book(which I needed for 2 cores) and the binding was broken. I was sure they would say, "ummm it's been a year..." But, no, they replaced it and told me keep the one I had and wear it out first.

I hope this also shows that SL is not a bad company to deal with. I do not pretend to know what happened in detail to the OP. I only know what has been posted here and on SL. I would be upset if this happend to me, too.

  6. I would say ACT is the best OTC fluoride you can get. Only allow rinsing when you know your kids can spit well. My son had incomplete fissure closing in his baby molars which led to fillings and eventually an extraction. He has been rinsing since he was about 6.

Also, I would really recommend that you brush your kids' teeth at least once a day. Really, kids do not develop the necessary dexterity to brush effectively until they are older than you may think. One dentist I worked for(I am a hygienist) said to not give kids the burden of their oral hygiene until you are ready to hand them a steak knife unsupervised. I (or my husband) brush after our daughters are done at night. They are 4 and 7.

Our son(21 months) has 2 cavities already:ohmy: I knew right away as they were erupting that it was going to be bad. We have a pediatric dentist that I am taking him to-he has an appointment tomorrow-who is helping me get this guy to age 3 before he gets the dental work he needs. I DO NOT want to do a hospital intubation!! So, this conservative dr. put him on a fluoride gel that we dab on with a Qtip every night. With that and a lot of prayer, we will try to hold off for an office procedure.

All that said, in my experience, I believe genetics play a big role, but so does hygiene.

Oh! Be gentle about the xylitol gum(or any gum!) Excessive chewing can cause jaw pain and joint inflammation.

  7. Um, no, they are actually not. If a money order is paid for by a check and the check bounces, the money order does too. Weird, huh? Rather defeats the purpose of a money order, as far as I can tell.

My PO will ONLY take cash or debit card for a money order.

Hmmm...maybe that's why people specify "PO money orders ONLY." I did not know you could pay with a check at some locations.

  8. I did a dissection class last year.( 2 classes) The first class we dissected an earthworm and grasshopper. The second was the frog. The kids favorite was actually the earthworm. It was probably the easiest, too. Our age group was probably 9-12 also.

  9. I agree that GWG is challenging for the grade it is written. DS13 used GWG gr6 last year(There was not a grade 7) and it was challenging and he learned A LOT. I think grade 7 (or even grade 6 for a child who struggles with grammar) would be a good fir for a 8th grader.
