  1. I was thinking programming at early age would make them bored. looks like I am wrong. So far we used AOPS for Math. I will check AOPS programming classes. Thanks mckittre.
  2. Thanks Calbear. Both your suggestions are interesting. We will check out during summer. Thanks again
  3. My D1 is 12 years. She is interested in Math and Science. She wants to learn AI and Animation. Now, she is learning Algebra and Geometry in Khan Academy. 1. Which part of Math should she focus on? 2. What should be her other area of focus? 3. Should she start programming now? Thanks, Madhu
  4. Thanks for your reply. Social Studies - She likes to know about places and people. But she is not interested in reading it in depth. For Second Language - She started learning by reading story books. She reads her lessons and tries translating them to english. She communicates in simple sentences. Unless I sit with her to spend time on those subjects, she doesn't spend time on them. The point is, she gets B grade in these two subjects. In all other subjects she gets A+. I am happy with that B+ grades. I don't want to force her to be good in everything. Her teacher says she might develop interest in these subjects over the years and I can wait. I am sure if I spend more time, she should be good at those subjects. My question is should I spend more time with her to get her in A grade category? Or should I let her to be average? If I let her to be just average in few subjects, what will I be missing out? Later I shouldn't regret I wish I had known this. Thanks, Madhu
  5. My DD1 (9 years) is good at so many things. Karate, Swimming, Math, Science, Reading. Her hobbies include Pencil Drawing, Sing Along. My DD2(5 years) is good at reading and tries to copy whatever her sis does. Suggestions needed. My DD1 is not interested in learning Social Studies and Second Language. She reads the subjects just for her teachers and tests. 1. Should I let her to pursue her interest or should I talk to her the importance of Social Studies and Second language? 2. What is the right age to let the child to choose the subject she likes? Thanks, Madhu
  6. @gstharr I showed this reply to DD and she is happy that everyone is going through same boat. Now she doesn't have a reason/chance to give up. 🙂 Thanks.
  7. DD1 (9yo entering IV grade) Eng - Reading skill is good, comprehending& writing skills are yet to improve. I don't know how to grade her. Comparing to most of her peers, she is above her level. We will be working on her story telling and comprehending and writing skills. Science - She has shown interest in human anatomy and self taught herself circulatory, respiratory and urinary system using khan academy. She completed all the basic videos. She even drew them so she can remember. She took the basic quiz too. But I don't know how much she still remembers and how much she can recollect. In Physics, she understood the basics of light and sound. Now she wants to learn electricity. But I want her to learn basics of Force and laws of motion before proceeding. Math - Khan academy 8th grade completed. Though she completed the mastery challenge, she makes mistakes in word problems. She has a mental block that word problems are difficult. This year we will be working more on word problems, ratio and proportion and similar topics. We will be working on her mistakes and her math writing which is poor. Sports - a) Last year she learnt breast stroke and butterfly in swimming. b)She is graded for next level Karate(orange to green Jr). c)She has started learning Kabbadi with her friends. Wish we get more time to do it regularly and find a better coach! We are planning to add Chess the upcoming year. DD2 (5yo entering Sr.KG) she is ahead of her grade at reading and Maths. I am not able to spend quality time. Need to spend some quality time with her.
