  1. I was LEFT by the hospital staff while in labor and would have given birth alone if not for DH being there. If nothing else, having your husband to look after your bests interests is invaluable.

I agree! With #1, the nurses ignored me and relied only on checking monitors. One nurse kept telling me I was in the first stages of labor and ds was born a few minutes later. (I remember thinking that if this is the first stage, I will die before this is over!) I told dh to tell the nurses that I was pushing and couldn't help it and that the baby was coming. I wasn't in a position to speak up for myself so he did it for me.

Dh actually did deliver baby #3. My midwife arrived 10 minutes later. I certainly needed him there for that birth!

  2. I know what you mean, my two year old is wearing size 5 dresses and she needs to move up to size 6!!

Yep! When my youngest was 18 mos she wore a couple of size 3T dresses. Some of the size 5T and 6T dresses my 4 yo wears are now too short for her. Do 4 yos (or anyone for that matter!) really need to prance around in skirts and dresses that barely cover their bottoms?! They really need mothers running these clothing companies!

But if you think about it, if nobody bought skankwear, the clothing companies would stop making it.

On the other hand, maybe the people who are buying skimpy 5Ts are buying them for their 2 and 3 yos.

  3. A 3T has diaper room in it, and a 5T does not. 3 year old girls generally still have their baby pudge tummy, 5 year olds do not. That is why the sizes are almost the same.

    [/quote

My 4.5 yo dd still wears some of her 3T shorts. They seem to fit better than her 4Ts and 5Ts. Sad, isn't it? I didn't think I would have to face this issue until she was about 9 or 10.

  4. *gasp* How can you say such things!? :)

Honestly, I wasn't much of a Disney person. I thought it looked kind of fun but that's about it. We went to Disneyland for the first time two years ago. I couldn't believe how fun it was! The parades, the fireworks, the shows, the rides! My dh loves it and has been many times. He kept telling me it really was the happiest place on earth. My dh....who would rather live as a hermit in the mountains than anywhere else...loves Disney. Sure, it can be crowded but for the most part everyone is so nice and in a good mood while they are there.

When we went, we had 5-day passes and were there over Christmas. We would be there every day at opening, go back to our RV for lunch and naps and then back again until closing. I was 7 months pregnant and we had three kids 7 and under and grandma and grandpa in tow. It was a blast! I can't wait for our next trip.

  5. Well, I can only tell you why it's important to me. It's important to me because if there was death before Adam (which you would have to believe in if you believe that dinosaurs existed for a long period of time before man) then the entire Word of God is a lie. *snip*

This is what I believe too. I still wonder though if you can't believe in this and yet still believe the world is older than 6-10,000 years. Can you believe the world is old without believing in evolution? I'll have to do some more reading on the topic. I guess it really isn't important how old you think the earth is but believing that death entered the world as a result of sin is fundamental to Biblical Christianity.

  6. This is extremely rude. But I can top this. Several years ago, I happened to be in a store and came across someone I worked with who was returning all of her wedding gifts to that store so that they could use the money for a downpayment on a house.

Wow, I don't think all of our wedding gifts would have given us enough money for a downpayment on a house!

Our favorite gifts were a couple of wooden breakfast trays for using in bed. We used them a lot being newlyweds and all. ;) Another favorite gift was from some friends of my family. It was a wooden box for holding apples or something and it was full of things like very cute homemade Christmas ornaments (made from cloth, not popsicle sticks!) and a couple of blue glass canning jars that used to belong to my great-aunt. The woman included a nice note explaining everything. My other favorite thing was probably a used crockpot that my aunt picked up at Goodwill. (She did get me something else as well but I only remember the crockpot! I used it all the time.)

  7. Oh, I know just how you feel! My private theory is that I believe the point of Genesis is...God created the world. How...well, thats not so terribly important. Its that He did that really matters!

I guess I don't get why the time span is SO important. The 6 literal days. But I do get it. It just seems odd to me that it is so important now, and wasn't when I was a kid.

There is much more to Genesis than the fact that God created the earth. It tells us why Jesus needed to come and die in our place. I had a friend who said that it was strange to him that people handed out New Testament-only Bibles. Without Genesis, people have no understanding of what created the gap between us and God in the first place.

As far as the time span, I've wondered about this too. Can't someone believe that the earth is old and still believe in a literal 6-day creation? I think someone somewhere went back and counted the generations in the Bible and came up with the idea that the earth is around 10,000 years old. I haven't studied enough about the issues to know though. Could there have been many generations that the Bible simply didn't mention? If someone "begat" someone else, does that have to mean a son or daughter or could it refer to a grandson or great-grandson?? We will probably never know. :001_smile:

Or maybe you mean why the 6-day time span for creation is important?

  8. If the fat free is that good, think how good the full of fat version is...

    yuuummmm!

 Actually, I prefer the fat free! Go figure. We have tried so many different kinds of ice creams since moving here. (Nothing compares to Tillamook ice cream but we can't find that here in AZ.) For a splurge we get Ben and Jerry's but sometimes we get tired of all the crazy flavors and just want a good vanilla. This Breyer's vanilla is better than any other regular vanilla we have tasted so far. It's a crazy world.

  9. 9 yo ds:

Unloads the dishwasher everyday but Sunday

Helps tidy up the house (we do different rooms on alternating days)

Vacuums the schoolroom twice a week

Vacuums the living room and bedroom once a week

Cleans the kids' bathroom three times a week (basically wiping things down with a wet rag and antibacterial wipes--I scrub the tub and toilet)

    Keep bedroom clean (daily)

Fold and put away his own clothes (every other day or so)

    6 yo ds:

Unloads the dishwasher on Sundays (he really wanted to do this job!)

Vacuums the exercise room once a week

Sorts the laundry into piles (one for each person) after it is dry (every other day or so)

Folds and puts away his own clothes (every other day or so)

Empties the recycling box when it gets full (maybe twice a week)

Gathers the garbage from small cans around the house (probably once a week)

Helps tidy up around the house (daily)

    Keep bedroom clean (daily)

    4 yo dd:

    Helps sort clean laundry

Folds and puts away her own clothes (she loves this job)

Helps tidy up around the house (daily)

Uses the small hand-held vacuum to vacuum the stairs (once a week)

My kids love to vacuum. They actually argue over who gets to do it so I had to add it to their chore schedule.

    2 yo dd:

She does what she can. She loves to help out. She carries her clothes up to her room after they are folded and helps pick up toys, that sort of thing.

  10. OK, I'm being silly, and NOT trying to offend those of you who have eaten :001_huh:, or frozen, or planted said body part :).

We have a winner!! This is probably one of the few things on here I wouldn't do. That and anything immoral that has been said. Margarine? I bought some today but I'd much rather have butter. I actually fed my family some of those packets of Lipton Sides noodles tonight at supper. Only because I paid 25 cents for two packages (good sale + coupons). Yuck!

We may have a chance to find out just what we will do. Dh works on straight commission and is making next to nothing right now.

My grandma always said that it was fun to be poor. It made a person creative. She's a riot.

  11. I think that not all credit counseling services are created equal. Some do equal a bad mark on your credit. Not like a chapter 7 or 11 or whatever number, but a ding.

Either way, baaaaad idea to exchange unsecured debt for the secured debt of your home.

There must be some difference in services. Dh sells RVs and he checks peoples credit reports all the time. The ones he has checked, he said when someone has used a credit service, they never qualify for a loan for an RV. I think some services work with the company to close your accounts and then you end up paying a smaller amount than you owed. In a sense, it is like filing bankruptcy. Maybe some services don't close your accounts. I don't know.

  12. I went to my 10th and my 20th is next year. My family still lives within decent driving distance of where I grew up so that makes it easier. I had fun at my 10th and I think my 20th will be fun. I hope I get to go. It was fun to see how people had changed (or not changed!) and to catch up on old friends. I have fond memories of high school. I went back to my hometown over Christmas and my sister and I walked around our old high school. It seemed so small. :001_smile:

  13. I know some rice flour breads are made without yeast. They aren't that good though. Oh, I see rice is on the list. We've never had to eliminate that many things. Sugar? I would be miserable! There is a website where you can search for recipes by choosing from the list of foods you want to avoid. I'll see if I can find the link. I didn't see it when I googled and I don't remember what it was called.
