  1. ok, sorry, I missed your location at first, but I am sure there are some crossover patriotic songs, and Canadian flag pledges and such that would be great too.
  2. Another idea...lyrical science, science facts to song (pick the shorter ones,) they are funny!, Beethoven's Wig cd's are classical music with words, we learn alot of facts about composers or instruments with these, and they recognize the music if they hear it somewhere. Steve Green kids cd's are all Scripture....can you tell we like to learn to music. Geography cd's, we have learned the state capitals to song, we also do Bible verses and a catechism each week, plus classic poems, like Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. Preamble to the Constitution is do-able, Pledge of Allegiance, Patriotic songs. The songs are the thing for us, they don't realize they are learning, and it keeps us happy in the car.
  3. we, so far, have used saxon 1 for K, just because it covers so many basic things...skip counting, calendars, $, etc, but then have gone to MUS with much better results (attitude especially). saxon 2 was too trying for all of us. even my children with struggles in math have enjoyed MUS better. I did add in Horizons math this year for "variety" and "fun". DD(8) has just finished MUS gamma and is going easily through Horizons 4, dd(7) is halfway thru MUS gamma and is enjoying Horizons 3. DS (5) will start MUS alpha next week. I also use a "flashmaster"...handheld computer thing (hate to call it a game) that gives flashcards in any order, type you want with or without a time limit. We do this about 10 minutes every day and they know their math facts..plus it is fun. HTH. Maureen
  4. I would agree, you can do 2 books in one year, but I would do one whole one and then another. Try for botany in the spring...much more convenient.
  5. I am planning on using this book this coming year, it looks fabulous. We used the Botany book this past year and enjoyed it. It is definitely a notebooking approach with many activities. We usually spent one day reading and one day of "field work"...in other words, go outside and find what we read about, pick it, draw it, etc. The activites are pretty basic and easy to do with household items, you can buy a kit though. There are notebooking pages online on her website that are helpful. I can't think of anything I didn't like. Maureen
  6. What are some thought on spelling... we have been using Spelling Workout and it is ok, but not that challenging. We have used Phonetic zoo A since I found it used and cheap, but I don't want to pay the full price for level B. has anyone used spelling power? any other ideas? Thanks. maureen
