  1. I am on WW right now and I am about to go in for my third weigh in tomorrow morning. I have lost almost five pounds so far, but I am not sure what tomorrow morning will bring.

I know that at our last meeting, the leader said something that I think I am going to try this coming week. She said "for breakfast, eat like a King. For lunch, eat like a Queen. And for dinner, eat like a Pauper". I thought that was great! We have the mindset to make dinner our biggest meal when really we should be making breakfast our biggest meal to start the day off right and maintain good energy. She also said to make sure you get your snacks in daily too, don't skip them.

Another quote that our leader mentioned that I just love is "If hunger is not the problem, food is not the solution". I am sure there are many who have heard this before, but I had not. So many of us eat because we are stressed, bored, alone, etc... and that is not good.

Oh, and I am drinking LOTS of water which seems to really be helping too.

My main point though was to not save up lots of points for dinner, but use the majority of your points earlier in the day and have a lighter dinner that uses less points. It is a reverse way of thinking, but it just may work! I am going to give it a go and see what happens. :)

Best wishes to you on your weight loss journey!

  2. Again, thanks for all the responses. I do want to just let everyone know that while my husband was not on board with this particular decision, he is a wonderful person and I have no intentions of kicking him to the curb over this issue.

My husband and daughter just don't have the best relationship. However, we (both husband and I) have helped this child GREATLY in many, many ways.

This is really the only thing that husband was not on board with and he does have reasons. First, he is without a job and has been for 11 months now. Second, my job provides an income, but a very small one as I do in-home childcare. I am not sure, but most likely we would have not been able to sign for her anyway. Also, we have a good friend who did this exact thing, and now he is dealing with a heap of issues because of non payment. Both of these things combined has DH greatly concerned.

We also have a son together. He is only eight right now, and who knows what we will do when he gets to this point. I would think it would depend on where we are financially at that time, which is hopefully in a better place than we currently are at right now.

Again, we help our daughter a lot. When she first moved out a couple of years ago, we even paid all her utilities for many months until she could get her finances on an even keel. We have also helped her with college expenses, etc....

Also, I would never have gone behind DH's back and signed anyway. That is just not how we roll. I would really hate if he did that to me. And, yes, I could have gone ahead and signed, but I chose not to do so.

Thankfully, it all has worked out. Our daughter is happy and does NOT hold any hard feelings for our decision ( I think knowing that DH has no job right now helps her understand this better). My parents are fine with their decision to sign and so all is good.

It was not this way when I originally posted, but God has an amazing way of making sure things work out for the best! :) Thanks again!

  3. Thank you for each of your replies. Since I do agree that my husband and I have to be on the same page with this decision, we will not be signing. :( However, my parents said that they will do it for her. I am very grateful to them for their willingness to help in this situation.

    Again, thank you.

  4. Hello,

We have a twenty year old daughter who is going to a college a little more than an hour away from home. She is transferring from another college to this particular one in August. Anyway, she has been looking at apartments to rent once she gets there and has found a really nice place. However, they require students to have a guarantor sign on the lease as well.

I am alright with signing, but my husband (her stepdad) is adamantly against signing. Our daughter has been out of the house, paying her own rent for over two years now and has never missed a rent payment. Now, she has been a bit of a pain in other areas, but that has nothing to do with this situation. Unfortunately, my husband ties all that together.

He says he can't trust her and that it is a bad idea and he is not going to agree. Boy, does this put me in a tough spot. I want my daughter in a safe, nice, clean place and this fits the bill.

What would you do in this situation? Thanks so much!

  5. Hello,

I have come here looking for a bit of helpful advice.

I homeschooled my son for K, 1st & 2nd grades. Due to certain circumstances, my husband and I sent him to public charter school for 3rd grade. Well, I have been completely unimpressed with this school year.

While my son is happy and overall enjoys school, he is still asking that we go back to homeschool next school year for 4th grade. Things have settled down a bit in our lives to where I may be able to actually do this. However, I am wondering if I have waited too late. Meaning, I don't really know what curriculum I would like to go with, have no lessons planned, no books, etc... I genuinely have had so many other things going on that I haven't given it too much thought.

What drove me crazy this past year is not really knowing what and how my son was learning. He just has not seemed to retain much of anything which drives me batty. From what I gather, there are many distractions throughout the day and my eight year old son does not work well with that happening. My sister, a third grade teacher, says this is pretty typical, especially with the boys.

There also is not a ton of creativity going on it seems. The teacher is nice enough, but does a lot of standing in front of the class writing on a white board. The kids then have to copy things down on a ditto. To me that sounds very boring! Again, the teacher is very nice, but my son has not seemed to learn well while in the class.

My DH and I have literally had to re-teach our son things in the evenings just so that he would do well on tests. Homework would sometimes be two hours or more because of this fact. Now I know this is not the same with all the students in the class, but it is what we are dealing with daily. Our poor son would end up in tears so many nights. That bothers me.

Also, I have noticed that handwriting does not seem to be important anymore. I worked with my son for three years on handwriting and his was wonderful! I even had a fifth grade teacher say that his handwriting was neater than most of her fifth graders. This was when he was only in 1st grade! Well, just over the past year his handwriting has gone downhill sooo much! Of course, I make him rewrite things, but my son will say, but the teacher says it was fine. What???

They also jumped ALL over the place with the subjects. Especially math. There would be a something new introduced and just a few days later they would move to something else. Again, this did not work for my son.

ANYWAY... after all that, my question is do you think I still have time to get together everything for 4th grade in order to make the year a successful one??? Also, any suggestions on great curriculums for this grade? I need suggestions for all subjects please. My son is definitely a very visual and interactive learner, so I am looking for something that might lean towards that learning style.

    Thanks so much!!!

  6. Hello,

I am in need of a little helpful advice please. I have a friend who's child is having a birthday in just a few weeks. She would like for me to come and take candid (& a few posed) photos of the event, along with some individuals pictures of the birthday girl. I LOVE photography and she has seen some photos I have taken in the past. This frees her up to enjoy the party as well. :) Anyway, I would love to go and do this for her.

However, she has insisted on paying me for my time and service. I will also be editing the photos and getting them printed out for her, plus I may do a slideshow for her too. I have NO idea what to charge her because I was just going to do this to help her out. She is adamant though! Haha!

The party is going to be about 2 hours long and she wants me there the entire time. However, I am going to get there a bit early to get those special pictures of the birthday girl and her family.

My friend has also told me that she has another friend who may want me to do the same thing for her child's party in a couple of months. Wow! :)

Anyway, will someone please help me? I have no business sense and no idea what to charge my friend and possibly one of her friends.

Soooo... what would you pay for something like this? I am curious to hear. Thanks so much!!! Everyone have a great day! :)

  7. Hello,

Is it at all possible to sell your home, and rent out another while unemployed?

The only debt we currently have is our home. We don't really enjoy this house and would love to sell. However, DH is out of a job currently. It would be great to sell the house, & just rent another for a bit. The plan being that when DH does get a job, we have no home to have to sell and could easily purchase a home at that time.

I know, it sounds crazy. We are just curious though. :)

    Thanks! :)

  8. Hello,

Has anyone started their own home business? If so, please share your experience and all that it entailed please. Also, was it worth the hard work?

I currently have an in home childcare, but I want to get out of this work. My husband is out of a job due to being laid off back in July 2012. We are now looking at starting our own business and I think I have a couple of really good ideas. He will of course still be looking for a full time job as well. Eventually, I would be the one to run the home business.

Just trying to figure out where to start. Thanks!

  9. Thanks to everyone for the replies. We have checked out dealerships around here with no luck. We do have other options in mind with a couple of businesses that could work in the SC area should the cars sales not work. We have also had other jobs that were more what he desired "almost" come through, but then for one reason or another, did not happen. We are open to relocating, but only to neighboring states so that we can still be within reasonable distance to family.

I don't know what we are going to do. Again, LOTS to think about. I know that I don't want to be here alone with my son for several months while DH works in SC. That would just be incredibly hard for our family.

Thanks again for the responses. I guess I will just wait and see what happens next. DH is actually doing the training right now, but nothing has been determined yet. Maybe this is a poor choice. Need to make that pro and con list! :)

  10. Thanks for your input! We do realize this is a high risk, but at the same time, DH needs a job. We are going to weigh the pros and cons before making any final decision though.

I was thinking that it might be best just to rent our house out for the time being. It is strange because DH is not receiving ANY calls for jobs in our state, they are all out of state. UGH. That is alright, but just creates more headache initially. If DH takes the job, we will go with him & just rent a place there most likely. He may go up a bit earlier and then we would follow.

SO much to have to consider and think about. Goodness, makes us almost want to just start our own business and not have to deal with the ways of the corporate world. But then again, that path has all sorts of risks as well.

Thank you again! I greatly appreciate your thoughts. :)

  11. Hello,

I was simply wondering if anyone here is or has ever been a cars sales consultant? Even if you personally don't have the experience, do you know anyone that is a car sales consultant? A good friend, spouse, family????

I am asking because my husband has been out of work for almost 10 months now. There have been just a few times where we would think he might have a new job and then things would just go stone cold. Overall though, things have been quiet. :( While I love having my husband around more and I love all the time he is able to spend with our son, we do realize that a job is needed.

He is now considering a position for a car sales consultant. It is not the same field of work that he has done in the past, but that is alright because he did not love what he was doing anyway. He has interviewed and was invited back for a crash course of training. If he is a good candidate, he will have another interview with the owner of the dealership and be offered a job possibly.

Anyway, I would just love to hear any stories of experiences with this type job. I think that my husband would be great at this type thing, but I do know there are some long hours. However, I honestly think that is with most jobs these days. This job would provide us with benefits again which would be wonderful, not to mention a salary again. It would require us to move about 3 hours from where we currently live which is alright too. Also, we are looking at the fact that when you have a job, you can get another job easier than when you are just out of work. So, if he got the position and then didn't really like it, he could be searching for another job and possibly appear more attractive to other companies for that very reason.

One other question please. IF my husband were to accept a position and we were to move (from GA. to SC. - Greenville area), we are debating on whether to sell our home or just rent it out. Any wise words of wisdom on that thought? If we sell it, we don't have to deal with it anymore which would be nice. If we rent it, well, then I guess if it didn't work out in SC., we would have a place to come back to at that point. Maybe that doesn't make sense. See, this is why I am seeking advice on these matters. Haha! :)

Sorry this is so long, but I sure hope there are a few people that are able to help me out with some suggestions, advice or helpful information. Thanks everyone! Have a wonderful day! :)

  12. Hello,

Well, after eight long months with no job, it looks like my husband may actually be offered a wonderful one by the end of next week. :)

We are excited & praying the offer is great for him & our family.

I am an extreme planner & even though we don't know for sure yet, I want to start putting together a plan for what we will need to do if this comes through. The new job would be in SC. We live in GA & have our whole lives, so this is all very new to us.

So, what I would love is some great tips on what we should be doing to prepare for this possible move to make things easier. All friendly advice is welcome! :)

Just a couple of details... My husband will most likely begin this job late March, but my son & I will not move there until late May so that he can finish out he school year.

We also own our home here & would want to put it on the market as soon as we find out officially that he has the job. We would also need a home in SC. This is confusing to me even though I know there is a way to make this work temporarily.

Just lots to think about & that is why I am asking for help. Thanks so much! :)

  13. Thanks again, everyone. :) One of my favorite shows, House Hunters, is actually featuring a couple purchasing a home near the Charleston, SC area on the show tonight! Fun! Good timing too. :)

My husband has a pretty big interview tomorrow morning that may tell us much more as to whether this move will actually happen or not. He has been out of work for eight months now, so we are praying for good news IF this is the best thing for our family. :)

  14. After doing a bit more looking, I really like the looks of the houses in either Goose Creek or Summerville. The homes in Mount Pleasant are quite expensive for what you get ( compared to Ga.). However, when looking in the other areas mentioned above, the homes were much more in line with what we enjoy & expect (square footage, land, etc...).

I know these areas are a bit farther out, but still do-able. I will be working from home & also possibly homeschooling my son again, so I really want to enjoy my home.

So much to consider with a possible move. Uprooting our family from an area we have lived our entire lives (and all our family lives in) & going somewhere completely new with no family around is both exciting & scary. Decisions, decisions.

None of this is definite yet, but I am a planner & like to know what we may be getting into, so I research like crazy. :)

Anyone ever heard of a company called BenefitFocus on Daniel Island? If so, what have you heard about the place?

    Thanks so much! :)

  15. Hello,

I am hoping that there are some people in the South Carolina area who can give me some advice. My husband may be offered a job in South Carolina very soon. We currently live in Georgia and have been here most of our lives. This job is in the Daniel Island area, but we know that most likely we could not afford to live on Daniel Island. I don't know anything about what areas are good and safe to live in there. I would assume that there are nice areas around the Charleston area that would be suitable.

Please, if you are from this area, could you offer any advice or information about South Carolina and living there. We will really have lots of big decisions to make soon and we don't want to uproot the family if this is not a good place to live. ANY helpful information is appreciated. Thanks soooo much!!!

Everyone have a wonderful day! :)

  16. First, I want to say a big thank you to all who replied. Thank you for your kindness and great suggestions.

Second, I want to just clear up that I do need to lose more than 25 lbs, BUT if I lose 25 lbs, insurance would not decline me. That is according to their standards of height/weight ratio. I was told that every state varies.

Anyway, as embarrassed as I am, it is just a good slap of reality. A wake up call per say. I have known for years that I need to lose weight, but haven't done so because it is so darn hard and I find very little time for myself these days.

I am just going to have to take this time and lose the darn weight. I can't allow this to happen again. I feel disgusting, and I hate that.

Thanks again for all the advice. I appreciate it sooo much! Everyone have a great day. :)

  17. Hello,

I really need some good advice on the best & safest way to lose weight fairly quick & keep it off. Please.

You see, my husband was laid off from his job back in July of this year. Since then we have had no health insurance. We finally decided we best be safe and get some since he still is out of a job.

Well, hubby filled out the application last week & everything was suppose to begin today as long as we were all approved. We received information today that everyone but myself was approved. It stated that I was declined due to "medical conditions".

My husband called because he figured there must have been some kind of mistake, but they would not even talk to him about it. They had to speak with me.

So I call & tell them the situation only to be told that I was declined coverage due to my height/ weight ratio. :( I am devastated, embarrassed & feel that I have hit a very low point. I am now the cause for my family not getting health insurance. :( :( :(

I know I have weight to lose, but I never thought this would happen because of me being overweight. We are going to go with another company, but I am just having a hard time with this right now.

So, any suggestions for getting about 25 lbs off fairly quick so that this NEVER happens again? Thanks, and please be kind. I already feel bad enough.

  18. Thanks for all the great replies! My first choice was North Carolina. As much as I love Disney, I just don't think I want to live in Florida. However, if a great opportunity were to come up, well, I would think about it at that point. :)

We are a family that LOVES having four seasons, especially Fall. I think I would miss that so much if we went to Florida. At least NC and TN have the seasons, so that is big for us.

Hopefully, we will find out more tomorrow and see if this is something that we even need to be considering right now.

    Thanks again!!! :)

  19. Hello,

I was just wanting to get some opinions. My husband was laid off back in July of this year. Today he applied for a position at a company he would love to work for & to our surprise has already received a call back & has an interview tomorrow.

The thing is that this job could cause us to transfer to another state. We are in Georgia now. This job could be in Charlotte, NC., Nashville, TN., or Orlando, FL.

Of course, we know nothing now, but if you had those three choices... North Carolina, Tennessee, or Florida... Which would you choose & why?

Thanks & have a great day!
