  1. Marla, I think the idea of mnemonics will be a good idea. She is constantly making up stories and jokes to go along with things. You all have helped with such wonderful ideas. Just to let you all know, my daughter had decided to become a hermit after math. She decided she would live without it and when I started telling her about everything that math uses she had an answer for it all. She told me numbers were fine, just not math. I told her they were the same and she explained that numbers were 1, 2, 3, etc. and Math was putting numbers together. As a hemit she had no use for Math. She even planned on coming home to get what groceries she needed, and using the oil in my basement for her lamps, and using the sun for telling time. That is when I realized her hate for this subject. She is a funny little girl. So, I am taking the advice of this thread and seeing if I can make her LOVE math again. Thank you all!!!
  2. Thanks everyone! Marla, What do you use now for your daughter? This has been so hard for me. My other daughters never had these problems and Math is my favorite subject to teach (not now, I think I dread it as much as her). MUS bored her everyday with the same old thing and she refused to use the blocks saying that they were babyish. She loves cards games and board games. She can finally bet her dad in Rummy so that is why I was leaning on the RS Math games. I just now need to find a program and get busy on the facts. Thanks also for the website of using cards. This will be great!
  3. Hi Everyone, I need help finding fun things to use to help my dd (8) learn her addition and subtraction facts better. She completed MUS Beta this year, but still will use fingers, toes, eyes, and even ears if needed. I have tried flash cards (she cried everytime I pulled those out) and drills overwhelm her. I have even thought of purchasing the Right Start math games since everyone says good things about them. Would they work? I dread starting multiplication and told my dd that we have to know our addition and subtraction facts before we start to multiply. She will be entering 3rd grade in the fall. I really want to work this summer so she is ready for a 3rd grade curr. (don't know what we will use) Thanks for any help, Amy
