  1. We are way off the WTM recommended history schedule, and I need some ideas what to do for my 8th grader. She is doing high school level work in all other subjects, and I think she would do well in a high school level history course, but I don't know where to 'restart'. In the last few years she has done US history, state studies, world geography. ancient history....she was going to do BF Ren and Reformation, but changed her mind when she got started...She likes literature based programs, but the books need to be really easy to get at a library, since we have very limited funds...She is not a huge fan of learning history and would like her to have a fun year...Any ideas? (ohh, and she HATES projects!! lol...more of a read it and get it done kind of girl!)
  2. We are way off the WTM recommended schedule, and I need an idea where to go from where we are. In the past few years she has done some American history (a few years ago), with a state study, Ancient history, then went to public school for a year where she did a year in geography. She was going to do Beautiful Feet Ren and Reformation (she liked the looks of it) but once she got started really disliked it. She is way above 8th grade reading level and comprehension, and is doing high school courses in LA, math, and science...So I feel like she can handle a high school history course...just really don't know what to try. She likes literature based programs, but the books must be really easy to get at a library, our funds are extremely limited...History is not a subject she has shown incredible interest in, but I want her to have a fun year...any ideas? I'm going to post in the high school forum as well...
  3. This is a very minimal possibility....but thought I would mention it just in case...have you had his vision checked recently? My dd was having the same problem, and when we had her vision checked we found out that she needed vision therapy, because her eyes weren't working together and focusing was very difficult...she's now doing much better, seems to be able to focus without as much noticeable effort...
  4. Do you know if there are any sellers in the US?
  5. Language Arts is a very strong point for my dd and she is really about bored to tears with grammar, vocabulary, and spelling...reads well above her grade level, has great comprehension, and is a great writer...She does amazingly well in those areas even when doing programs well above her grade level. She's going into eighth grade and will be studying Medieval History(BF) and Chemistry(CKE), as well as Algebra I(LOF) this year...any ideas for literature and language arts that might seem fun or interesting? Maybe something a little less textbook or worksheet-like?? I'm coming up blank for this one....
  6. I printed out the first chapter to try over the next couple of days/weeks...we can see how it goes...thanks for suggesting it...for some reason I never thought of giving it a trial run...lol
  7. Good suggestion...I think I will print out some and see if she likes it (or maybe if I like it...that's probable the case...lol)
  8. I have used CLE Math with three kids and have loved it, found it to be very easy to use and a very solid program that didn't require tons of time for either me or my student....But I bough Math Mammoth and have it sitting in my files...Never used it, it just has been sitting there... I have an upcoming first grader and a very small budget...She's a very quick learner and I'm sure she will do well with either program...any input on using CLE again and cut costs somewhere else or give Math Mammoth a whirl...anyone compare the two?? Decisions...decisions...
  9. My 3 1/2 year old lives computer games and has been doing really well with letter recognition and number recognition...any input comparing these two programs? Or recommendations for other inexpensive or free programs? He does starfall already (just the free stuff)...
  10. :iagree: We moved from R&S to CLE and my kids are doing so much better! The layout allows them to learn/reinforce in a short amount of time per day...we only use their LA and Math...
  11. Can you try some of each? For instance, keep R&S for English and Math, do reading/narrations for History and Science? Or keep R&S and limit the number of problems if they understand the concepts? For example assign only even numbered problems for the day...
  12. Sounds like my DD...I had her go through this up until it got to where her LUs picked up: http://www.clp.org/product/extra_practice_sheets_diagramming_2611 Here is the answer key: http://www.clp.org/product/extra_practice_sheets_diagramming_answer_key_2610 Once she knew what to do she has loved it...
  13. I was thinking about getting MFW for my 4yr old. She is working slowly through CLE Learn to Read program, and she has done the CLP Preschool and R&S pre k series but wants to do more. Now I'm concerned since I read the 'worst purchases' thread..MFW K was on there a good bit... I definitely need something that isn't super teacher intensive, as I have 3 others I am working with, and a baby, and studying my own college material...so time is definitely a consideration...Also, we need something that isn't crazy expensive. She knows her letters and is beginning to be confident in their sounds and doing well with CVC words... Ideas??
