  1. Has anyone gone this route for college, or are you planning on this when your dc goto college. I'm looking for advice and opinions. Thankyou
  2. These are as harmless as can be, my dc love to listen to them on tape
  3. I'm planning on using Anayltical Grammar for 7th and 8th grade and I'd like to hear what you've all thought about this program and, is there anything else out there that is as thorough for less $. thankyou
  4. I started my ds in Beta at the same age, math made him cry. It is so worth your time to begin again and stick with MUS, it is an excellent program! I am seeing the fruit of it as ds is about to start Zeta. This does not mean it has been easy. We still had days of tears and challenges, but I wish I could have started with MUS way back in the beginning. He almost admitted that he likes math now ruth
  5. It would be very easy for you to do this.
  6. I think my best piece of advice would be, settle into a math program and then stick with it. Most programs will do a wonderful job covering all the important subjects and as long as your dc understand the math that's all that matters. I think Saxon will be a good foundational course, but there are lots of great programs out there (as you know). Consider your dc's learning style. Do they like pretty pictures, does that annoy them, do they learn well by listening, do they like clean black and white print, do they hate manipulatives? See if you can answer any of these questions which might help you decide on a program. Also be prepared to put aside what you think is the "perfect program" because that might not fit with your child. I loved Making Math Meaningful, but ds cried everytime I brought it out, so we switched to Math U See. DD hated how plain MUS was so we switched to Bob Jones, and she loves it. Remember, in homeschooling we can be flexible in what we choose to match our kids. Don't worry about the "math-spaz", I use to have one at least once a year:willy_nilly: Ruth
  7. I don't mind the hijacking of the post, those are some of the best messages. I'm using TOG 2 redesign and it has been the best thing for our school this year, just pre-ordered year 3. Once you get the feel of TOG it is so easy to use and the kids expect the same rhythm every week. My dd informed my that today was arts and crafts day (even though I didn't have anything ready) , so she's off making an apron. I love it! Still wishing for more input on the AG? thanks
  8. thanks everyone! very helpful!! Ok, so no spending 2 years on older CW, got it. What about Anaylitical Grammar? I still want to use this program? it looks so great! but I'm not one for over-kill Could I use AG and CW older together? One more ? I will have a 11yr old-5th grader dd next year who has had Bob Jones grammar and writing, do you all think I could start her in Homer, or should we begin in Aesop? Thanks again Ruth:thumbup:
  9. All my questions are for ds who will be in 7th grade in the fall. I'm looking for solid foundational writing and grammar program for the jr.high years. So far I am sold on Analytical Grammar, and I'm thinking of using it over 2 years. I also have always liked the concepts and way CW is taught, but have never used it. I was considering using "CW for an older child" program over 7th and 8th grade because it seems like so much work per week. I'm afraid my ds will be in a little shock . OK, let me have it, what do I do? I have been reading all the great posts on grammar and writing, but I need some help. Thanks ladies. Ruth
  10. I'm wondering if there is anything out there as logical as AG that covers writing ? We will be going through IEW 4day intensive, but I won't be continuing the program, too much $. My dc are 7th and 5th grade and we have been using Bob Jone english this year, but I'm not really happy with the instruction for the writing section. It moves around from topic to topic quickly so I don't feel like they are getting a good foundation in writing. What course will lay a firm foundation for writing and isn't too hard for me to use? Thanks! Ruth
  11. This was just what I needed to hear! It sound yucky! I'll keep looking Thanks for your time Ruth
  12. Looking for opinions on Jensen's - Journey Through Grammar Land. I'm looking for something that is thorough, and interesting for 6th and 7th graders. I plan on using their other products when dc are a little older. Thanks
  13. My 5th grader loves the looks of BJ or any pretty work book. I love MUS because it's concept upon concept. but dc is really hindered by the plain text:confused:. Is there a program that is like MUS, very thorough and orderly, but that has the pretty pages? thanks!
