  1. I lasted about 15 minutes into the first episode before I gave up. It's nice to know I didn't miss anything.
  2. Adding: Marine Science I Student Book and Teacher's Guide MathTV - 10,000+ math tutorial videos (arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus) School Yourself - interactive, video-based lessons Psychology 101 - online textbook from All Psych Economics - 16 week course from The Christian Scholar
  3. Well, my kid with math LDs went up almost 3 grade levels in a year once we fixed some foundational gaps and found a more appropriate approach, so I think a typical learner could easily cover most of arithmetic in about a year. I'm assuming that s/he already had intuited the concepts of the four operations. Arithmetic really isn't that hard. In 6-7 years we spend on it, there's a LOT of repetition, just with bigger numbers.
  4. Added: Biology Coloring Worksheets - for middle/high school students. Lesson and questions, with instructions for coloring the image. Available as .doc files.
  5. Added: ASU - Ask a Biologist - Experiments, articles, detailed coloring pages, and a lot more. I was looking for a poor man's Biology Coloring Book to tide us over until we can buy the real deal, so I'm pretty excited about this find. :) This is a really, really useful site.
  6. For people not in the USA: does your country have discounted internet programs, low-cost computers, etc. for families in need? I'd like to expand the "Discounted Internet" section to be a bit more global. (edited for clarity)
  7. Mi Vida Loca (BBC) - and interactive video drama and Spanish language course.
  8. Adding: Learn Spanish with Señor Jordan - YouTube series for beginning Spanish. Plus the other links that have been suggested since the last update. As always, y'all find the best resources. Thank you :)
  9. DiscoverE - 400+ hands-on engineering projects, lesson plans, videos, virtual field trips.
  10. Adding: National Council for Geographic Education Geography Club (years 1-3) - for elementary students Knowledge Quest Globalmania: Master World Geography in 7 months or less - ebook Seterra - a fun map quiz game Megamaps - Giant printable world maps Ambleside Online's Geography 1-6 schedule And I think that's about it for geography... unless I find another resource suggestion I've missed, which has clearly happened a few times so far :tongue_smilie: A HUGE thank you to cintinative, zookeeper, and Hunter for your help. These are really great resources. Our geography section now looks pretty awesome now thanks to your help :)
  11. Adding the vinttage geography books: Home Geography for the Primary Grades, Elementary Geography, Geographical Nature Studies.
  12. Adding: Middle School Biology Curriculum and Activity Guide - created by Carlsbad Caverns National Park Cognitive Neuroscience - Video-based, part of MIT's High School Studies Program. Created a new section SCIENCE - ENGINEERING & ELECTRONICS under which will reside: MIT's High School Studies Program for Engineering - Audio & Speaker Electronics and Guitar Building
  13. Adding Baltimore Curriculum Project - K-5 Lesson Plans for art, geography, history, literature, science, and music. Based on the Core Knowledge sequence. Requires access to a decent library to accomplish this for free.
  14. Adding Operation World, VOM, and 5 Themes of Geography. Hunter, thank you so much for sharing these. My younger DD is studying geography right now so some of these resources are going to be used by us right away :)
  15. Adding Guesthollow's Biology - Creationist perspective. This edited version of the CK-12 Biology textbook (thanks to Creative Commons license) has removed references to evolution, added videos and additional content.
  16. Today's requests: Our geography section could use some beefing up. Bonus points for structured programs or stuff that's just dirt easy to implement. It'd also be nice to have links to some high quality tutorials for life skills areas like: car maintenance and repair, cooking, nutrition, sewing, home repair, cleaning, budgeting, etc. That's not an exhaustive list, but you get the gist. Last but not least, I think it would be great to have a pre-K section for our younger friends.
  17. You're very welcome :) What's cool to me is that, even though I'm currently in a position where I don't need free curriculum, there are resources here that I prefer to paid stuff. So, as I plan for next year - especially for the soon-to-be high schooler (gulp) - I find myself shopping this list first :)
  18. Yes, you may suggest it, thank you :) Through that page I found John Muir Laws' youtube channel, and a lecture called How to Teach Nature Journaling. Now adding the link to the curriculum and a direct link to the lecture.
  19. Adding a direct link to the Internet Archive's Lending Library for checking out modern books.
  20. Not a curriculum, but interesting: Virtual Autopsy (I deleted the other link because I realized it led to a bunch of dead links. No pun intended.)
  21. Just added many of the courses from recent posts: MIT, Inquiry in Action, Hunter's econ resources ... and I still have a ways to go to finish. Thank you for your suggestions. I'll continue working on this later today. :)
  22. Reading the responses reminds me of this scene from Christmas Vacation. I think it's awesome that a girl went out of her way to find a way to encourage her classmates. The glass is half full.
