Advanced Math program I'd never heard of before.....

Integrated Mathematics by McDougal Littell: http://www.mcdougallittell.com/ml/math.htm?level2Code=IM&lvl=3

I have a friend who teaches high school math and she recommended it to me. It sounds as if it blends and rearranges traditional lessons in a more meaningful way...very similar to Singapore, but includes mathematical terminology which Singapore doesn't use much of.

Lessons appear to include lots of discussion starters...an interesting concept to me.

Has anyone used this? Could anyone more mathy than me share your thoughts on how it looks to you?

Hi Jenn,

I haven't used Integrated math but one of our neighboring districts does. If you go to the McD-L site you can see the complete tables of contents. Basically it takes algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II and shuffles them into a series of three one-year texts that cover the same topics in a more "integrated" manner. In terms of covering all necessary topics and having a good combination of explorations, manipulatives and practice problems I think it is pretty good. If you care about the NCTM (National Council of teachers of math)standards it is written to match them. It looks like it more teaching on statistics and probablity than is covered in many algebra/geometry series--especially in schools where they don't finish the whole book. The biggest problem I see is that you have to commit to doing the three year sequence--it could be a problem for a student who changes schools to one with a more traditional math sequence. If you plan to homeschool through high school I think it could be a good option.

The reviews that I've seen were quite negative; check the links below.

If we're talking about the same series, then I'd stick with any of the math programs recommended here (Jacobs/Foerster, Dolciani, Lial, etc., etc.).
