happynurse
I am looking at Spelling You See for my rising 1st grader. I am planning on doing WWE 1 next year as well. Is that just too much copywork? I'd say that we'd just use that as our handwriting as well, but my son is really loving cursive, so we'll be doing a cursive program too. Does anyone else combine SYS with programs that also have copywork and dictation, such as WWE? What does that look like in your home? Any input appreciated! nixpix5
I do :) My current 1st grade twins do SYS B every day along with copywork every single day. On top of that they do Abeka workbooks every day (both phonics and language arts books) that require a good deal of writing. When they left school they couldn't write much and now they write 3 to 4 sentences of creative thought with ease to include my one who has ASD. The first few weeks I got whiny resistance but ignored it and didn't give in. Now they do it without a single complaint. They both say they love writing and love to play this game with my DH and I where they communicate with us via white board. I am a solid believer in we sometimes underestimate our children because we give in when they show complaint. Often pushing past and not negotiating gets them to a better place. I know I probably sound like a meany pants but I am constantly asked how I get my kids to work so diligently and independently. When I tell people I get crickets but I promise you I have well loved, joyful happy kids ;)

I appreciate your feedback!
displace
Spelling you see for lower levels is not a lot. They recommend only ten minutes of dictation per day.
