anmom
I have been looking all morning and can not find what I am looking for. Maybe it isnt available anywhere but I thought if anyone would know, it would be someone here. DS is in Algebra (Jacob's) and is struggling a little bit with graphing linear equations. Specifically finding the slope and y intercept and knowing how and when to change the equation and knowing how to get it to the point of graphing. I have shown him multiple times, I have even made him a little "cheat sheet" and he just has to be walked through it over and over every step of the way. This is my kid who is very "math brained" but for some reason this just isnt taking hold and I do not want to move on until he completely understands the concepts. So...are there any videos or extra topic specific curriculum you know of that we could use for extra practice? I really dont want to make something myself and obviously he needs to read/listen to someone other than me. We have tried the videos on Ask Dr. Callahan, he doesnt care for them. I think he really just needs more practice than the book has for now before we move on. Thoughts? TIA
Vida Winter
He could just do some targeted practice on Khan Academy. Be sure to create an account so he can earn points & badges - it makes it more fun! Khan will make a student repeat a topic until they get it. deerforest
We’ve also used games and interactive notebook things from Teachers Pay Teachers. Riddles from Algebra Math Pizzaz too.
Farrar
I find that the individual books in the Key to Algebra are useful for really basic practice if one of my kids isn't getting something. Since it sounds like transforming the equations is part of his problem, I'd think that Dragonbox or Hands on Equations would be useful. And it would be work backing up and working on that for a little while since it's so fundamental.
