writing curiculum for an 8th grader

Hi Ladies,

 

Any writing curriculum recommendation for an 8th grader that doesn't need a computer. She's enrolled online at Memoria Press Foundations for Composition but I am frustrated the way she's doing her assignment. It took her 3-4 hours doing her assignment on the computer and I  found her playing Roblox or Pokemon or reading articles about birds. She's a good writer if she only focus on what she is doing and this week her teacher gave her an extension to submit her work but she was still late in submitting it. We are also dealing with dawdling issues here. Thank you so much for your input.

Around that age my dd with focus issues really needed a lot of supports. She was a good writer, but her executive function issues (ability to break things into chunks and not get overwhelmed by the task) were really maxed out. I had to make sure she clearly understood the instructions, which sometimes meant me highlighting to make sure she caught the pertinent parts. I taught her to use Inspiration software, which allowed her to map her thoughts, convert the graphic/map to an outline, and then write. And I gave her an undistracting location on a computer that was her fathers, ie. if she did anything else she was toast.

 

Of course she also had times where she made 1600 pinterest pins when I thought she was doing school work.  :lol:  :lol:  :lol:

 

I totally get it's not peachy. I'd just also check on whether she needs more supports to succeed. If she were super on top of it, she probably wouldn't be fading out and skipping out so badly; it would be faster just to do the work. She may need more tools and supports like that.
