  1. Hi Ladies, Any writing curriculum recommendation for an 8th grader that doesn't need a computer. She's enrolled online at Memoria Press Foundations for Composition but I am frustrated the way she's doing her assignment. It took her 3-4 hours doing her assignment on the computer and I found her playing Roblox or Pokemon or reading articles about birds. She's a good writer if she only focus on what she is doing and this week her teacher gave her an extension to submit her work but she was still late in submitting it. We are also dealing with dawdling issues here. Thank you so much for your input.
  2. Anybody use Shepherd's Life Science for Middle Schooler? thanks
  3. My dd is now getting bored with Memoria Press Science: Book of Insects. Any suggestion for a real hands on science curriculum approapriate for her age? Thanks.
  4. We use McRuffy since my eldest was in K and she's now 7 and in third grade. She's very visual and very artistic. She's a voracious reader and a good writer too. So, I cannot say anything bad about McRuffy.
  5. We love McRuffy. We started from K -3rd grade and my kids read early and wrote stories at an early age. My eldest is very visual and she loves those funny colorful pictures. Very easy to teach and not overwhelming. We use LA, Math and Science. We do supplements just for more fun.

  12. Here is my plan for my 2nd grader language arts: FFL, wwe and gwg. Does the fll covers phonics? Do i need to add handwriting program to wwe or the wwe is sufficient enough to teach handwriting?
  13. Thanks ladies for the reply. I inquire this morning at St. Thomas Aquinas Academy(california based homeschooling program) and they told me that if I enroll my DD to their academy she will stay at a first grade level because of her age but they (St. Thomas) will customized her program based on the result of her assessment. I picked her first grade program and we are fine with it. So this coming school year am thinking of something different :) but seems like more trouble than it's worth... wahh..
  14. I need advise and suggestion please about vertical and horizontal acceleration. Right now I am homeschooling my just turned 6 year old dd at a first grade level and I looked around for homeschooling program for this coming school year(2011-2012) and was advised that she will stay at the first grade level but she will get a customized program "advanced program".. as I understand this is a horizontal acceleration...and am thinking she will just get more intense work than a typical first grader. I am planning to put her on the second grade level this coming school year because she doesn't have any problem at her grade level right now except that sometimes she would tell me that lesson is boring..I know that already. If you accelerate your child did you pick your own program? Greatly appreciate input and advise...Thanks..
  15. Does anybody tried or heard about the jonesgeniuses curriculum? I am looking into it maybe for the next school year but what to get more info about it. thanks. Honey

  17. My DD then was 4 1/2 when I started homeschooling her in K. We use McRuffy LA and Math and she loves it. At first we use Seton, Saxon and HWT(Handwriting without Tears) and they are all dry and she even found some errors in Seton workbooks (she is only 4 1/2 gosh) and she was so bored writing letters ...I mean writing repeating letters. For her it doesn't make sense because she is already reading at that time. So I look for a curriculum that make sense on her and we found McRuffy and it was a blessing. I concentrated in 3 R's and more time in reading(reading aloud) and playing and outside work(nature study). I am not sure if she is gifted because we don't want to put so much emphasis on it but as a mother I know where she is on her learning ability and progress, so we we just follow where she is on the learning aspect and nourish her brain in a healthy way. Honey
