summerreading
My ds went to a tutor before for profound dyslexia. Now we are remediating at home and using Dancing Bears and Apples & Pears. I think these programs are good and think starting AP a few weeks ahead of Fast Track AB is really helping. I will be adding in Brainware Safari soon for working memory. In therapy he had an exercise where there was a geometric pattern on dot paper. At first, he recreated that pattern on a geoboard and every day he would rotate the pattern and do it again. Then he moved onto drawing it on dot paper. We had to make sure his lines went left to right, top to bottom to help reinforce good handwriting. From what I understand, this was to help with handwriting, reversals and directionality and being able to visualize what he is seeing in his mind and reproduce it w/o errors. He was far along with this exercise and didn't have too many levels left, but I want to find a way to do correct these things at home. I have the book Compass Drawings at home, so I just decided for now that will stand in for that activity, but I'm not sure it is doing anything but helping with geometry and hand-eye coordination. Black-eyed Suzan
Does it have the same directional component? Or are the drawings symmetrical?
summerreading
Does it have the same directional component? Or are the drawings symmetrical? If you mean the compass drawing book, no they don't have to be. I guess I should be looking for OT exercises that work on that.
Heathermomster
Are you looking for physical exercises? Cross body, strength, balance, postural, and agility type exercises helped DS. He worked with a ped PT that came up with a specific plan.
