TN Mama
I've read all the threads I can find on Big History, but haven't seen anything posted in the past year or so. Anyone else considering it for the fall? I'm looking at other resources to pull in and plan on starting the teacher training this week. My rising 9th grader really got excited watching the intro video for Big History and when she gets excited about learning, I feel like I need to jump. Not my easiest student. :)
Chrysalis Academy
I say go for it! I did it with my 7th grader, and it was completely awesome, but in retrospect she would have gotten even more out of it - especially the Investigations & other writing assignments - had we waited till 9th grade. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again.
Alicia64
I'd like to use Big History too for my 9th graders. What are you using with it? Thanks for any info, Alley
TracyP
We will be using it next year for 9th. I planned it using Khan Academy because I thought the layout was a bit more user friendly. Khan doesn't include Investigations, so I added those. If you decide to look at Khan, you should also be aware that Khan shortens the last few units by quite a bit. I added the units from BH back in to our plan. I also added The Magic of Reality, Improbable Planet (this is Christian resource), On the Origin of Species, A Brief History of Humankind, Gun Germs and Steel, and Big History by Cynthia Brown. My dd doesn't love history, but I think she is going to love BH. It looks awesome!
TN Mama
I am in the process of going through the teacher training and getting connected on Yammer. If you are planning on using Big History Project (Alicia!), start here. You won't be sorry. There are book lists and videos and sharing of ideas and ... just get connected!Thank you Rose & Tracy for your input.
