MUS Primer without videos or writing

I watched the Math U See intro videos on their website yesterday and fell in LOVE with the system. Who knew solving factors was so easy? Anyway, I think my DS is ready for some kind of math curriculum, and he seems to fit right in with the scope and sequence of the Primer book.

My first question is... he can't really write yet (nor do I think he'll be able to in the next couple months). Is writing really essential? Probably not in Primer, eh? Would it work if I just wrote it out for him so he would still see the numbers?

Second, I haven't shown the curriculum to DH yet, but I really don't think he'll go for the DVD aspect, especially at such a young age. Do we/I have to watch the video to understand the lesson? I supposed I could just watch it by myself? I'm confident I can teach math, especially at this level, so that's not really an issue.

Thanks!

ETA: Do you have to buy MUS from their website or are there other suppliers? I'm having trouble finding them...

You can find it places like ebay or Amazon sometimes. You just have to look. Also check the sales boards here, or groups on Facebook. People usually resell those.

I'm keeping an eye out for primer stuff too to use in a few months. Since my DS CAN write a bit, I'll let him practice if he wants, but mainly work on the chalkboard or whiteboard. He loves writing on those. As for the video, I plan to watch it myself then teach.

The MUS webpage is the only place to get MUS products new. It's possible to do it without writing, my boys did most of it orally. The videos are meant for the teacher not the student but it doesn't hurt if the student watches, they are only a few minutes per lesson.

FYI we are working on multiplication and division and my kiddos still do the majority of their math orally.

We started it a couple of weeks ago. I watch the video and then present the concept. For the writing parts, I help him trace his answer. So far, he is just fine with it. Today he traced his numbers without help. We started Handwriting without tears book for preschool this week, too. In just a month, he has learned how to hold a pencil and can roughly trace lines and shapes. He went through two of the early preschool books from Rod and Staff, this month. Every day we see improvement! We do school for 5-30 minutes depending on the day and how entertained he is.
