Joan in GE
Just wondering how people who do AP Eu Hx give the credits...do you also do a separate World History credit and then count the AP as an elective? I know a lot of states require a World History credit...but some colleges would like to see the AP Eu Hx.... It seems that doing the AP Eu Hx wouldn't count as a W Hx credit since it is only covering Europe and not the whole world.... But I'm running into a credit planning problem, so just wondering what others do... Thanks for any ideas, Joan Edited August 20, 2012 by Joan in Geneva
Sandra in FL
I think that College Board is very touchy about anyone using the designation "AP" without course authorization. Each teacher who teaches an AP has to submit a course "outline" (what's being taught) that College Board (I guess - makes sure is up to snuff) and gives authorization to use the "AP" designation. Joan in GE
oops, I didn't explain clearly - but thanks for trying....Dd would do the AP Eu Hx with PA homeschoolers probably - so not a problem for the name of the course. BUT for her high school diploma she needs one 'World History' credit (a fairly common state requirement). Since EU is strictly European (I would presume)...it seems a stretch to call it "world history" on the transcript - or would high schools normally count an AP European History credit for World History state requirements because it is non-US history? regentrude
I would simply have her take the AP Euro course and add some non-euro World history at home. She can take the AP Euro exam, and you can label the course World History on the transcript: "World History with AP Euro test"

It shouldn't be hard to add that time, even starting the year before.... Thanks! Joan
swimmermom3
Hey Joan, What did you end up doing? Is your dd doing AP European History?
Joan in GE
Hi Lisa, I had asked for planning purposes, planning that she does AP European Hx next year....So right now she's doing 1/2 credit American Hx and when we do some World Hx activity, I document the time to count towards that credit in the future. I've also found that the umbrella school we're thinking of using will accept the AP European Hx for the World Hx credit....But I'm keeping up with regentrude's suggestion to keep my options open. :-) Joan
Candid
Regentrude has the best practical idea, my cynical thought is that US colleges probably consider anything non US as world history.

You know, I hadn't approached it from that angle but I bet you are right..... Joan
