Has anyone used the study guide for Adler's How to Read a Book?

Recommended Posts

I am going to start this book over the summer and saw this guide mentioned in an earlier post and was just wondering if it is necessary. Does it really help with getting through the book? I hate to spend $$ on something that I don't really need.

I used Maryalice B. Newborn's study guide. I, myself, would not do the book without it.

I can't find it on google, but in the front of the study guide is her email--NewbornM@alumni.carnegiemellon.edu--if it is still current. I think I ordered it directly from the author.

My son would never have made it through the book without the guide. We were just discussing book lists the other day, and afterwords, I heard him telling his younger brother, in a manly-bonding sort of way, "It's tough going, and you're going to hate it, but trust me: there's this guide that will get you through. You'll make it, buddy." That said, I have not worked through them myself, book or guide. ;)

:lol::lol: I can just hear your boys. I would like to have seen the facial expressions that went along with it.

Thanks to Jean and the op for the heads-up on the guide. I didn't even know there was one. My research this summer is geared more towards skill-development rather than curriculum. This was on the list.

fyi - I am not advertising, just passing along info so that I don't have to answer all of the emails coming my way. :-)

I sell the guide in e-format for $6 or hard copy, plastic bound for $12.95 plus $5 shipping. I take either paypal or personal check. I have quick turnaround, except for the next month, when I will be on vacation.
