Hoggirl
I am trying to decide on literature for my ds for next year who will be in grade 8. Would this be a good course? I am also considering Smarr's Intro class. Is Windows to the World a year-long or a semester class? Just wondering how it is scheduled. I would like to do more than just short stories. We are using Kolbe's jr. high program right now, and I could continue with it. Any ideas for a good grade 8 lit. program to segue into high school literature? I am not super keen on Lightning Lit or Literary Lessons from Lord of the Rings.
Quiver0f10
I'm not sure if you would be interested in Teaching the Classics, but you can dowload a syllabus from the IEW yahoo site that combines Teaching the Classics and Windows to the World into a year long course. We have been using it this year.
AngieW in Texas
Jill Pike wrote a set of lessons plans to spread Windows to the World over a full year by adding in a few more short stories, two novels (To Kill a Mockingbird and Jane Eyre), and a play (Hamlet). I found Windows to the World difficult to plan using just the teacher book. Jill's plans have worked out beautifully. You can view her plans at no charge, but should pay $10 if you end up using them. I know her lesson plans are posted in the files section at IEWFamilies on yahoogroups.
