blessedmom3
What do I need to buy in order to use Abeka phonics 1st grade ? Do I need all teacher manuals ? My son reads very well (chapter books) but he still needs to learn some phonics rules .
cindyinTexas
I really like the handbook for reading. It contains all the phonics rules included in 1 book. Each rule page has blends and sentences using the new phonics rule. You could also get the Letters and Sounds Student book to reinforce the phonics rules. You can see a sample at this link https://www.abeka.com/ABekaOnline/BookDescription.aspx?sbn=94927 https://www.abeka.com/ABekaOnline/BookDescription.aspx?sbn=95125 Edited May 11, 2009 by cindyinTexas
LisaKinVA
The Handbook For Reading (student version only... don't need the teacher version) Letters & Sounds is helpful for reinforcement... but can get overly repetitive, so if you use this, I'd reduce some of the exercises (unless you have a kiddo that just loves them... I've had one of those). The Curriculum Plans can be helpful, but I really haven't followed those since DS9 was starting out. If your son is reading short chapter books, I'd suggest you go with Abeka 2 Letters & Sounds and the Handbook for Reading. If you want the leveled readers, the 2nd grade readers as well (but expect your son to move through them quickly). Lisa
