Cornerstone Classical
MFW's Exploration-1850 year? Are you wanting a program to cover from the Vikings to Present Day?
JaniceO
Sonlight has a 1 year history course. I don't know if you're looking for little ones or older ones. I'm using it next year with my then 6th grader, but it could easily be adapted up or down.
Donna A.
Okay, I'll bite. :D It seems to me that most if not all American history programs are split up into two years because of the amount of info to be covered. The only ONE year "overview" that I know of would be to use a textbook as a spine (maybe BJU or Abeka), and add appropriate level reading for each student. You could also decide which your students need more of... early American or modern... and then pick one of them to do. We've run out of time to get everything in that I'd *like* to get in before oldest starts h.s., so we're going to do a "quick summary" through MFW Expl-1850 during the summer, and then do 1850-Modern as written for her 8th grade. I already own their Adventures stuff that I did with the girls a few years ago, so I won't need to buy the Adventures "supplement" package that adds on to their years 4 and 5 for little kids. But if you went with the MFW option, you'd want the "supplement" package. EX1850 (year 4) includes a 6-week state report at the end of it, so if that's something your kids haven't done, that might be something to consider. It also teaches beginning research skills... of course there's even more of that in year 5. Just a couple of ideas.
Donna T.
Heart of Dakota's Bigger Hearts for His Glory is a one year overview of American History from Columbus to the 1970's. It's written for 7 to 9 year olds and includes an Extension Package of materials to include 10 and 11 year olds. It's what I'll be using next year with my second and fifth graders. http://www.heartofdakota.com Sonlight Core 3+4 and Core 100 are one year courses. WinterPromise has a high school level one year course. My Father's World has Adventures for 2nd and 3rd grader.

Winterpromise's high school American History is a 2-year add-on for American Crossing and American Culture.:( If there was a one-year WP high school program, we would be ordering it. I am also going to be using HOD Bigger next year with my little guy. I made up my own for my middle ds. It uses a quite of few of the WP suggestions middle school program. I still need to get most of the books so the schedule may go through some tweaking prior to heading into the 36 weekly schedules. but all in all I am pleased. I think that if you gave each age group their own literature and simple spine to pull it together that the rest would work for a multi-age family group. Mandy in TN
A Complete Idiot's Guide of American History will tie it all together for my high schooler. I also plan to have him read selections from American Heritage Book of Great American Speeches for Young People and To the Best of My Ability. I would probably have middle schoolers use selections from Smithsonian's Children's Encyclopedia of American History or Steck Vaughn's America's Story independently. If I added anything for the elementary group, it would just be reading aloud parts of The American Story: 100 True Tales. blessedmother
All American History (Bright Ideas Press) is a two-year program, but I think it could be done in one year if you plan on two lessons a week. It is written for 5th-8th grade, but gives ideas for using it for younger and older students. Each unit gives reading lists for younger, middle, and older students. Quiver0f10
Thank you everyone! I think we are going to use MFW RtR and I know we will hit more US the year after that. I always worry that we aren't doing enough US history LOL.
