Pretty in Pink
I'm using the laptop on a Wi-Fi connection. We have a desktop hooked to the printer and a router for wireless. Is there a way to set things up so I can print from the laptop while I'm working wirelessly in another room of the house?
LaxMom
Yes. Share the printer through the PC. Just go into your printers folder, right click the printer, go to Sharing. The PC will have to be on to print, but it cuts out the need to buy a print server.
Tutor
I'm using the laptop on a Wi-Fi connection. We have a desktop hooked to the printer and a router for wireless. Is there a way to set things up so I can print from the laptop while I'm working wirelessly in another room of the house? Yes. You can set-up a home network with a shared computer and send all print jobs to the printer via the desktop you have connected to the printer. You will need to set-up file and print sharing on your laptop and the desktop (and between any other computers you want to be able to use the printer wirelessly). I am by no means a techie, but I was able to do this with a bit of trial and error and some help from articles I found on the internet. A quick Google search yielded this article, and this one, and this one. It was relatively easy to do. Good luck!
MamaT
Don't know how to do it (my son set it up), but telling you it is wonderful to be able to sit anywhere in the house with my laptop and print! I love this.
Deidre in GA
or you can get a network printer like the Brother HL2070N. its ethernet port connects to your router and then any computer on your network can access it - no other computer need be on. on sale you can find this or the current equivalent for less than $100.
