Pamela H in Texas
You know how Abeka Math, in the very early years teaches something new then reviews everything else the child has done each lesson? Is there a high school math like that? My ds is doing just fine with Dolciani (88 average), but something is missing. He just seems to need a lot of extra practice along the way. Any ideas? AnnetteB
Spiral is the term that I think you are looking for. Saxon math reviews all the previously learned concepts in each lesson. We start out with ABeka and BJU (1 workbook of each) through 4th grade and then switch to Saxon through Advanced Mathematics and our graduates have an excellent grasp of mathematics. teachmom3
Hi, Pamela-- The didactic method you describe--teach a little new material, and then have a lot of review with each day's lesson--describes how Saxon teaches. Also, I think, but am not sure, that Teaching Textbooks might also take this approach somewhat. However, Saxon is sort of the gold standard for the spiral review approach to teaching math.
