sweetpea3829
My oldest two have a gap year this year for history. So we're filling that gap with US States and Geography, as well as fulfilling our required NY State History piece. Any suggestions on good curricula? knitgrl
I don't know if I would call it "good," but we are using New York:Adventures in Time and Place by Macmillan. It is geared for 4-5th grade, but would work as a spine for history. I found it pretty cheap on amazon. For NY geography, go to the New York Geographic Alliance. Email them and ask for the "Atlas of New York:Legacies of the Erie Canal" and they will send it, and a lesson book to go with it for free. You can poke around on their site and track down some of the lesson plans, some of which are geared toward Jr. High. I banged my head trying to find NY geography resources for kids, and finding this was a god-send. As for US geography, I am looking forward to Trail Guide to US Geography. It looks kind of workbook-y, which suits dd just fine, and will be nice to have something that is fairly independent, now that I am folding her brother into the school mix.
