Talk to me about your experience with engagement rings that were family heirlooms, please?

A broken engagement..my maternal grandmother who was born early 1900s, was engaged to a drunkard, as she put it. He wrecked the car while they were driving along because he was drunk. She got out and walked away. I don't know anymore of the story than that.

The ring she kept...white gold, filigree, a diamond in the center setting and the gold was shaped into a heart surrounding the stone. My mom, the only daughter, of course she got the ring, and passed it on to me. It is big on my fingers and fortunately all of my daughters' fingers are bigger than mine.

No one has ever really worn it since or used it as their engagement ring, who would?!!!

Do you people think things can carry bad or negative energy with them?
