Anyone transitioned from CLE Math 5 to Math Mammoth 6?

Recommended Posts

My 5th grader is doing great with CLE Math 5, but he is a mathy kid and we want to get to algebra in 8th grade so we are considering switching to Math Mammoth for 6th and 7th grade. Has anyone made a similar transition? How did it go?

This may not be what you're looking for, but have you considered accelerating CLE, since he's doing great with it? At the start of 6th grade, begin with 602 (skip 601, review). Skip all the drills, unless he needs them. Skip every Lesson 5 (Quiz 1), every Lesson 10 (Quiz 2), and every Lesson 17 (discovery). This leaves you with 14 lessons per LU. If you do 20 lessons per month, you will reach your goal with room to spare.*

6th Grade (2016-2017)

September—602.1 through 603.7

October—603.8 through 604.14

November—604.15 through 606.4

December—606.6 through 607.12

January—607.13 through 609.2

February—609.3 through 610.9

March—610.11 through 702.16

April 2017—703.1 through 704.7

May 2017—704.8 through 705.14

June 2017—705.15 through 707.4

7th Grade (2017-2018)

September—707.6 through 708.12

October—708.13 through 710.2

November—710.3 through 710.16 (end)

December through May/June is open for other work

This pacing leaves you with December through May/June to either do some work in CLE 800, Hands-On Equations, work in MM Pre-Algebra, work ahead for Algebra, or just shore up any areas that need strengthening. I only posted this idea because we are considering this approach and pacing for my 5th grader (who is in CLE this year and doing well with it) for next year and the year following.

*I think I counted those lessons correctly, but I'd have to go over my list again, just to be certain. At least, this makes it seem possible to reach Algebra by 8th with CLE, unless I'm completely missing something. I've read on here that students can go directly from Sunrise 710 into Algebra 1. If you've heard anything differently, please let me know. HTH.

This is very helpful - thank you! This may be a good option for us.
