Carpe Diem
Hello, Can you please advise as to what math to take after Chalk Dust Alg 2. I tried searching but wasn't able to find the info. I know it is there. Sorry to ask. Thank you, Carpe Diem
kiana
Usually precalculus comes next. Stats is another option if the student isn't headed for a STEM career, but if stats is chosen algebra review should be included for college placement tests. There are a few other options if the student isn't college-bound or really needs something out of the box.
Carpe Diem
Thanks Kiana. What situation would a student take trig? Thanks!
LisaKinVA
Thanks Kiana. What situation would a student take trig? Thanks! Precalculus is College Algebra + Trigonometry. Trigonometry is usually a semester's work. College Algebra is some review of Algebra and beyond. Someone who would like more time with Algebra will often split College Algebra out for a year, and then do a semester of Trigonometry, This is how it was explained to me. kiana
Trigonometry is included in precalculus as Lisa said. But nobody in college admissions would bat an eye if a student had credits for algebra, geometry, advanced algebra, trigonometry. It would just be a different arrangement of material. Most students benefit from another review of algebra and especially functions/logarithms before calculus, though, which is why it's been shifted. Carpe Diem
Thanks LisaK and Kiana. Dd is likely headed towards a medical type career like nursing or nurse practitioner. I wish there was a way she could take ap stats and also do precalc. Knowing she is a nursing student possibly what would be the better choice? Stats or precalc. Sorry I am being so dense. Lol! kiana
Is DE a possibility? Nursing frequently requires both college algebra and a statistics course. Assuming she passes the placement test, she could DE college algebra in the fall, statistics in the spring, and have her college math all sorted out before she even applies.
