bethanyjoy
I am looking for a program to use in order to teach my first grader to read. We have tried Phonics Pathways and The Reading Lesson and she doesn't like either one. I think she needs color and a "fun factor". I have Happy Phonics, but I was looking for something with more structure that I could add Happy Phonics to. Do any of you have any experience with Lifepac Language Arts 1? Did you like it? Thanks, Bethany
...................
I ordered it many eons ago and sent it back. It's terribly slow, terribly disjointed... If you want something complete and very colorful you could try Abeka. Their phonics is one of the best. It's not terribly "fun" but at least it has adorable cute illustrations, a lot of coloring and plenty of color and good readers which also have plenty of color. There's also a point at which you have to just sort of "get it done"...you may not really find something that she would rather do than play. So, if you can find something really solid and just do a LITTLE each day that is better than trying to find the "one, awesome" thing that your child will love (because, truly, that may never happen.) We ourselves also tried Hooked on Phonics and it was a great start and very very cute, very fun. Unfortunately, the writing component wasn't strong. I think it's better if the writing is corrolated with the reading and phonics, which you will find with Abeka or BJU.
Aurelia
You might like McRuffy or All About Reading.
boscopup
CLE has improved versions of Lifepac. Their Sunrise Editions are waaaaaay better. CLE isn't colorful, but many kids like it anyway.
CAtoVA
I was also going to suggest McRuffy—it's colorful and "cute." For my DD, age 4 and starting to read, I am using CLE Learning to Read as a spine and adding in other resources like MCP Phonics A and Explode the Code books.
