1shortmomto4
Has anyone used the Hewitt Lightning Lit from Hewitt - say the 7/8th grade level? by a dyslexic? any other LD? Looking to find something that will prepare my ds for college-level reading assignments/skills and need something that is scheduled out for me and tells me what to say, do, etc. I'm not creative and just need an open and go. He's reading on the 9th grade level but really needs help putting the comprehension together. His writing abilities stink - major work in progress on this for this year. I was looking at the samples of the 7th grade one and it looks like they can learn note taking, making lists from the reading (notes), outlines - that kind of stuff that would be helpful. He's still at that stage that just wants to hear the story and retain as much as he can but I want to spend the next three years really making him stronger in his skills for college-level work. I've got a good idea what will be required as I've got two in CC now - notetaking from the readings, test for information regurgitation. The English courses had minimal reading but 3 or 4 essays. I've got to work on writing this year and also looking for something to help that take place, or, at least, make some progress. As long as he reaches the ability to write a strong essay by graduation in 3 years alls good. Feedback? Ideas?
Mom22ns
I used LL 7 & 8, but my ds is ASD not dyslexic. It has a lot of worksheets and I consider much of it busy work, however, if you pick and choose, it is easy to implement and the book choices are excellent. LL8 covers almost twice as much as LL7 and would be fare more appropriate for high school. I really can't speak at all to how it would work for a dyslexic kiddo though.
