Ideas for a multi-age history report on Explorers

We are coming up on the SOTW section that covers explorers of the middle ages.  I was thinking of assigning a report to each of my kiddos, but would love some ideas on how to differentiate for the age levels I have.

My oldest two are 8 and 9 and can easily handle a short written biography of an explorer of their choice, if given specific questions to answer and research.

My middle son is 6 1/2, has little formal writing experience (as in, little to no report writing) and probably would be maxed at writing a sentence or two with considerable help.

My littlest guy is 5 1/2 and is still learning how to form his letters.

All four participate in our SOTW lessons.  Even the little guy gets a map which he completes with a lot of help from his siblings and myself.

Mostly, I would love to hear ideas on how to include the youngest two in such a project.

Thoughts?
