Lial's BCM - teaching a coop class.

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'm way out of place on the high school board, given that my oldest is 9, but I've volunteered to teach a developmental math class for teens at my local homeschool center. I'm going to be using Lial's Basic College Math, 8th edition. We'll meet weekly for 32 weeks, and probably have an online component for interaction/help between classes.

Anyone done this type of thing before and have advice? Are there any teacher's resources I might want to look for, beyond the basic textbook?

Rivka, I've used the book with all of my sons as their 6th grade math and loved it. But, I don't know a lot about resources that might be available. I'm bumping this though since it fell off the front page in the hopes that someone will see it and have recommendations.

Thanks, Faith! I've already gotten a helpful PM. :001_smile:

I am not really sure what to expect from the kids. I've heard from other people who teach at the homeschool center that the teens' level of preparation is all over the place. I am really attracted to the idea that this book starts from the beginning and moves forward systematically. I know there are probably some kids who have emotional issues with math, and others who have just never given it much time. It will be very interesting to see how this goes.
