KYHokiemom
After using FLL 1, 2, and 3, I haven't reserved my FLL 4 yet and like the look of the Easy Grammar. Is it as rigorous and thorough? Any thoughts are very much appreciated. I have also considered R&S. I already am using WStrands for writing. Thanks.
Chloe
EG 3 and I really like it. I have EG 4, but we aren't ready for it yet. The method of crossing out all the prepositional phrases before finding the subject and predicate of the sentences helps him a lot.
Julie
I would go with RS over EG. After 1.5 years of EG, my kids frankly had no grasp on grammar. They could cross out the phases, but did not know what a prep. pharase was, or how it related to any other part of speech. It could be user error..................but I have had a much better time with RS, it is laid out well and easy to follow. RS is rock solid, I don't think you could go wrong with it. Ellie
If you want just grammar, my vote would be Easy Grammar. It's very good, even though it doesn't do diagramming. Millions of people in the world learn to use their language well without having ever diagrammed a single sentence :-) Since you are already using Writing Strands, I wouldn't recommend R&S, as it includes writing as well as grammar. How old were your dc when they did EG? Did they finish the book, or did you take 1.5 years on just one book?
Julie
My son started with 4, completed it, and did half of 5. While he was doing 5 my daughter was doing 4. Half way through the year it was clear that, while they could fill out the workbook correctly, they did not have a grasp on what any other parts of speech were other than nouns and verbs. I like the concept, but it just did not work with my kids. I switched to Winston, which we completed in a few months, basic and supplemental, did some Grammar Ace, and have settled in with R and S.
