Hi! Need ideas/resources. I'm American and my son is 6 & starting 1st grade in September. He can already read & write in Italian & is improving in English but obviously isn't as strong. I really want to keep him /get him to the same level as American/Canadian children in case we should ever move back to The States . I'm looking for resources for spelling & reading, what you've used in the past & liked. We've used the Kumon series, Brain Quest & reading our own books but am looking for something more structured or at least ideas of what people are using. Was thinking the Sylvan series... I should mention I'm an English teacher so am comfortable with grammar etc. I'm considering reading, vocabulary & spelling books

Thanks for any ideas!

For that age, I love The Reading Lesson because it is simple and extremely effective in my experience. I have used it with several kids and use it as the main or only reading/phonics program for K, 1st and 2nd grade phonics instruction.

We'll be moving into Spalding in the Fall, which covers handwriting, spelling, and reading, but is a lot less "open and go" in my opinion.
