Going from Shurley English to R&S??

My dd8 will have completed Shurley English 2 by May and we are going to use Rod and Staff next year. I am looking for thoughts on what level she should start in r&s. I have r&s 3 but after looking at it I am not sure if it would be repeating a lot of what she already knows. The only new thing would be the actual diagramming as Shurley only has them classifying their sentences. Would r&s 4 work for her? I have heard that r&s 4 is a step up from 3 so I don't want to overwhelm her. Any advice from those that have used eithor or both of these would be welcome.

I'm using R&S 4 with my 3rd grader this year. He gets grammar easily, so it's been pretty easy for him. The diagramming is taught from the beginning, and they go very slow with it. For a long time, you just diagram the subject and verb. That's it. Eventually they add direct objects and predicate nouns. Then eventually they add adjectives, etc. We're somewhere in the 80s lessons, and we just recently got to diagramming adjectives. Up until that point (over half the book), it was JUST subject/verb/complement (with the complement only being direct object or predicate noun). So I would not worry one bit about the diagramming in R&S. :) Diagramming sentences is in the Review and Practice section about every other lesson, I think. I usually only have my son do 2 of them... *maybe* 3, and I select the ones that are different from each other (so if it's 3, I might do subject/verb/direct-object, subject/verb/predicate-noun, and one with understood "you").

Level 4 is a step up from 3. If you plan to use the writing lessons, I'd look at those as well, as that is especially a step up from 3.
