atozmom
We are currently using CGE and enjoying that. (well, I am enjoying and he is tolerating :tongue_smilie: ) I really like the sounds of the hands-on, visual approach of Winston. However, it doesn't cover punctuation, dictionary usage, etc., like CGE does. Would it be possible to use the Winston cards with another grammar program? Has anyone done this? Or am I just plain nuts?
ChicoryChick
I have not done this, but I believe it would be very easy to use the WG cards with another program.
atozmom
Thank you. I think I will be looking into this. Anyone try this yet?
A home for their hearts
We are currently using Winston Grammar Basic. I wouldn't see why you couldn't use the cards with another program. They have the part of speech on one side and clues to help you determine if a word is that part of speech on the other. After all, a noun is a noun no matter what program you use. ;)
atozmom
Thank you ladies. I will be adding them to my next order at Rainbow.
atozmom
Just found the Teacher's guide and cards for $9ppd!! I was only wanting the cards but I figured I would just get both, just in case we decide to go that direction. Especially for that price. And, the teachers manual is just the same as the student book but with the answers written in. So, you could just use the sentences you want and write them on a white board.

Or am I just plain nuts? I just had another one of my briiiilliant ideas (just kidding....does that show my age?)! You had asked about punctuation....well, you could (and I might just do this) make a few cards of your own. One that says "Capital" or "Capitalize" or "Capitalization" or "Start each sentence with a capital letter" or something like that (you can tell I haven't completely thought this through yet  ). This card could be put on top of the very first card laid out for the sentence. Make several cards that say something like "Capitalize each proper noun". Then you could make some cards with a period, a comma, exclamation mark, question mark...and those could be laid out at the end, or within, the sentence also. Of course, the sentence in the book (or on the board) will already have the proper punctuation right in front of them....but this may be way of drawing their attention to it since they have to lay the cards out for the sentence correctly, including the punctuation. Hmmm.....I like my idea. :D
A home for their hearts
I also wanted to add that my dd13 has really thrived with Winston Grammar. She didn't have any previous grammar instruction before we started. I was amazed at how quickly she caught on.

Do you skip the grammar in LOE and just do Winston? Or do you incorporate both and if so, how?

Or do you incorporate both and if so, how? So far we've been doing the grammar in LOE as well. I don't line up the topics in LOE with WG, we just do the next lesson. Some of the grammar in LOE I don't like so we just skip it.
