SebastianCat
Has anyone done two different Apologia Elementary texts with different kids (or groups of kids) at the same time? Next year I'll have a 6th grade science LOVER and a 4th grader who could leave or take science. My science loving DS is currently working through Zoology 2 (swimming creatures) on his own at double the pace of the schedule from the NJ. He's on track to finish Zoology 2 in 13-14 weeks, and wants to do the Zoology 3 book & NJ this year. My non-science loving DD is currently working through a stretched out schedule of Zoology 2 that I put together, essentially half the speed of what the NJ recommends, but doing science 4 days per week, so she'll finish by the end of this school year. I had originally planned to do Anatomy & Physiology with them both next year, but I'm wondering if I should let DS do A&P on his own, while I do a "lighter" book with DD (we have Botany which I did with DS when she was preschool-age, that she might enjoy). Is this too much to try to do 2 books? If one child is working mostly independently, except for when he needs my help with experiments, will this work? I want to try to encourage his independence because (1) he LOVES science; and (2) he will move on to General Science the following year, which is designed for independent study. Thoughts? Thanks! Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
If your son works independently I see no problem. Doing 2 books in a year was what my at the time 5th grader did. He did all the Apologia books independently, created a great notebook for each (we used the free pages) and retained almost all of it.
