Sarahkay
I just jotted down all the WTM suggestions for subjects for my 5th grade DS. Next, I jotted down the recommended time to study each subject (for example, math 45-60 min 5 days a week). When I look at all the subjects and add up the time, my 5th grade DS will be doing school for, like, 8 hours! And that's not includIng devo/bible, art/music, and SWB's suggestion for that fat rest block in the afternoon. So....how does it all get done? If SWB is laying out a "doable" plan because she wants us to succeed, how, HOW, is this even possible?
Ellyndria
I believe it's been said that SWB did not want to list times in the book, but that her publisher made her do it. (Because, really, isn't that one of the many varied reasons that we homeschool? So that we can make up our own schedules and be as flexible (or not) as we need to be?) IsabelC
I interpreted SWB's times (and yes, she does have a disclaimer) as a maximum for each subject. You'd do that much if it's your kid's difficult subject, but less for the things he finds easier. Also, SWB doesn't seem to put much emphasis on sport, so if your son is very involved in sports you might need to cut back on other things to compensate.
