SunnyDays
Shopping online tonight, I found two Eggleston books that appear to cover much of the same material: A First Book in American History and A History of the United States and Its People. One looks to be more geared toward children, while one looks to be targeted toward adults and young adults. Other than that, are there differences? Would you recommend one over the other? Thanks... :)
Mrs Twain
I don't have A History of the United States and Its People, but I have read Eggleston's other two books with my kids (A First Book in American History and Stories of Great Americans for Little Americans). I would use these latter two for elementary age. Comparing them on Amazon briefly, A First Book in American History is recommended for ages 9 and up and is 237 pages. A History of the United States and Its People is recommended for ages 12 and up, and is 433 pages. So I would guess that this book would be better for middle school. Whatever you decide to use for American history next year, I would recommend getting Stories of Great Americans for Little Americans. My kids love that book, and we have read it several times.
