Gisel_le
Anybody care to look these verses over and see if it is translated right? I got this off lyricstranslate.com. We are still in the beginning stages of learning Latin, but I didn't think some of the words looked right. I'm trying to find fun songs for the kids to learn. :) I'd appreciate any help!! Jesus loves me Jesus loves me, this I know For the Bible tells me so Little ones to Him belong They are weak but He is strong chorus: /// Yes, Jesus loves me /// The Bible tells me so Jesus loves me, He who died Heaven's gate to open wide He will wash away my sin Let His little child come in chorus: ..... Jesus loves me loves me still Though I'm very weak and ill From His shining throne on high Comes to watch me where I lie chorus: ..... Latin Iesus me amat Iesus me amat, hoc scio Nam biblia mihi dicat Infanti sunt Ei Infirmi sunt, sed Is firmus est Chorus: /// Profecto, Iesus me amat /// Biblia mihi dicat Iesus me amat, Is qui mortuus est Ut late aperta porta caelis est Is purgabit peccatum meum Iubete intrare infantem Eius chorus: Iesus me amat, etiam num me amat Quamquam valde infirmus aegrotusque sum De Eius regnum splendidum de summi Venit ut specabit ubi iaco

B. A. Lewis
This is not a very good Latin translation from the English. And it really doesn't fit the meter and tune very well. Here's a better one to sing to the same tune: Iésus ámat me. Scio quod Scriptúra dícit hoc. Insunt éi párvuli. fórtis ést, sunt ínfirmi. Sic, Iesus amat. Sic, Iesus amat. Sic, Iesus amat, Nam Scriptura dicit hoc. I was a little free with the Latin translation, in order to make it more singable (keeping the same number of syllables and lining up the accents with the English), and to avoid hiatus and the need for elision, and to produce some rhymes or slant rhymes (scio/hoc, parvuli/infirmi). Here's a literal English rendering of the Latin: Jesus loves me. I know because Scripture says this. LIttle ones belong to/in him. He is strong, they are weak. Yes, Jesus loves. Yes, Jesus loves. Yes, Jesus loves. For Scripture says this. I'm still working on a Latin version of the second and third verses. I have a Ph.D. in Greek and Latin, and I work as a translator of Latin texts into English. 2
