MBM
My son's current favorite math topic is graph theory, so I'm seeking books. He has a few in mind, but I thought I'd see if anyone knows anything about the few I found through Amazon. The links: I thought this might be good for a beginner about high school age: Dover's Introduction to Graph Theory by Richard Trudeau followed with... ...Introductory Graph Theory by Gary Chartrand, the "Holy Grail of Graph Theory" according to one reviewer -- and it's only $10.99! Any opinions about these two or suggestions for other titles? TIA! :)

Any opinions about these two or suggestions for other titles? TIA! :) Sounds like fun, MBM :) I know that my kids enjoyed learning about graph theory from AoPS and at camp, but I don't think either one ever followed up beyond the intro level. Your selections look like good starting points. I always enjoy the Dover intro books myself when tackling a new topic. A quick check of my fave math reading suggestions lists for students (AMC site, Mathcamp recommended reading list, Russian Math Circles book) turned up these volumes also: Pearls in Graph Theory another inexpensive Dover Intro to Graph Theory by Wilson looks like it's out of print, but some used copies are available on Amazon. I love this line from one of the reviews: "This author has a charming writing style, although he suffers from a mathematician's sense of humor" Graphs and Their Uses by Ore & Wilson (same guy as above). I've never been disappointed by anything in the MAA's Anneli Lax series. Hope that helps. I may have just added a book or two to my Amazon basket, too...:tongue_smilie:
MBM
Thank you for those suggestions, Kathy. I have a feeling my son will be wanting to place another order at Amazon soon. LOL. I want to read the books that suffer from a mathematician's sense of humor. Sounds like something I'd like. I hope that's not bad!
