Kathryn
I think it was a short novel, though perhaps it was a longer short story in an anthology. It was a utopian/dystopian piece. I want to say it was set in England in the future. I don't remember much beyond that there was a fence that divided the country and the main character was a boy who somehow ended up on the other side of the fence. I want to say that one side was agricultural and one side industrial? I do remember that the streets were paved with some sort of rubbery material so that the horses hooves wouldn't get sore (that's the one detail that's stuck in my memory). I know it's not much to go on, but does this sound vaguely familiar to anyone? I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure it out.

Tohru
I don't know either, but maybe this might help your remember, or at least give you some titles to eliminate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dystopian_literature
