Help with the confounded right-hand-rule

I am going to be testing on this Monday, but I am still confused. If anyone could go to the link and look on the textbook page 211 question 8. The TM says that the pointed end of the nail is a North pole, but my thumb keeps pointing to the head of the nail.

Look at the figure: the current is going clockwise if you are looking down on top of the nail. Curve your fingers in that direction, thumb is direction towards the North pole, i.e. pointing downwards, away from tip.

The tip is the south pole, the flat end is the north pole

If you go back to page 207 you see two figures illustrating this; the problem is the right scenario.
