Aloha2U
I thought this may be a fun thing to learn and teach to my ds (prek), as well as be a useful skill. I meant to do it do when ds was younger but he was so easy to understand and speaks so well that I've just put it off until now. Can anyone recommend a good resource for beginning/basic sign language?
AmyP
A good free resource is aslpro.com . It was recommended to me by an interpreter at work last year. They have lots of video of different signs. I have found its more helpful to see the videos than see illustrations in a book.

LisaCA
You should take a summer course at the local CC. If that is not possible you should look for a course that offers DVD, enlist a friend to learn with you, or hire a tutor for the both of you. My DD took this in HS but without using it much she is not confident and will need to retake it in college. Sounds fun!
