myfatherslily
Like this? I'm thinking about replacing my ratty torn shades with some homemade fabric ones. I'm a bit nervous that I'll mess it all up, though! I can sew, but I tend toward slight imperfection. I'm worried that I won't cut the fabric straight and the shades will hang crooked. What would I do when the kids inevitably slobber on them? Just yesterday I scrubbed chocolate off one of those old torn vinyl shades. Hmm. I guess I could gently hand-wash just that small area in the sink. Do they roll nicely? I'm concerned that the thick softness of the fabric would prevent it from rolling up well. And last, how time consuming are they to make? It looks fairly easy, other than getting it all straight. I have 6 windows. I don't really want to do this, but I wasn't too excited about the prices I saw for shades that I could purchase:tongue_smilie:

Guest ronjakes
I am afraid it will not work out to place the fabric on an inexpensive roller shade, as the fabric is going to shift as it rolls. Also, the edges will be bulkier if you turn a side hem on the fabric. Gluing may result in bubbling.
