mommyoftwinboys
I'm looking at purchasing HOD Preparing for the fall but had a question about spelling. Do you feel the dictation is enough for spelling or do you have another curriculum in addition to the dictation? I purchased Megawords but am looking at English from the Roots Up as well(I like the gentle approach and saw that MFW uses EftheRootsU)..thoughts? Holly
My 4th grader will be using R&S Spelling next fall. I think dictation only would be fine for her (she's a natural speller), but I need more independent work for her. R&S can be done mostly on her own. I also looked into Spelling Workout and it looked nice too. I'd like to add in the dictation once or twice a week if we can fit it in, but I have 3 other DC at home too. ednkirstin
I have tried teaching spelling using only dictation in the past. It didn't work well for us. We use All About Spelling now and really like it. One of the things I love about AAS is that it incorporates dictation in each lesson, but doesn't rely on dictation alone. It is a strong phonics based program. Edited July 12, 2011 by ednkirstin
