Schellgirl
I have a son who seems to have no memory for sight words. Having a lot of trouble with reading. Has anyone used the SnapWords cards for right brain learners. I saw them on CurrClick Newsletter. There is a drawing with the word that is suppose to impress the right brain learner? They are fairly expensive and was curious what others thought. Thanks!:001_smile:
veggiegal
I've not used them, but a friend's child was having similar challenges and she found materials at the "Picture Me Reading" site that look similar. I am in now way affiliated; just thought you'd want to compare prices and products. :D
bairnmama
They also seem similar to Dianne Craft's Right Brain Sight Word Cards. But she only includes 32 words in the set.
Schellgirl
I will check those other sites out. Thanks so much for the replies!:001_smile:
Guest blueskies
They do have some free downloadable SnapWords cards on their site if you want to check them out to see how your son responds before deciding whether or not to make the financial commitment. Schellgirl
Thanks so much. that is a great idea. I checked out Dianne Craft's site. She has a book on brain integration--anyone use it and what do you think. I'm not much into nutritional changes etc. I know we can't do it. I have a smart 8 year old that just doesn't seem to be able to focus long on the page and has trouble remembering words he has read several times. Teach your child in 100 easy lessons has been the best thing for him. That is why I think meaning and context seem to help him remember things more. wondering what would be the next step for him to help him succeed. Schellgirl
Thanks everyone. I printed out the snap cards to try with my son and looked into both Picture Me Reading and Dianne Craft's site. I really appreciate all the help. :001_smile:
ElizabethB
I would recommend against teaching them--I've remediated scores of students who have ended up with guessing problems because of sight words. Here is how and why to teach all but 5 of the most commonly taught Dolch sight words phonetically: http://www.thephonicspage.org/On%20Reading/sightwords.html
