Zoo Keeper
I have the chance to print off for free :) a few books for some free reading (extra books the boys choose) for next year. This would be for my two older boys, one of whom loooves to read anything, history, bio, science...you name it. So, what are your family's favorites for 8-12 year old boys from Ambleside, google books, main lesson, etc? I'm open to any and all suggestions, so long as I can access it and print it off for free. Thanks!
ocelotmom
My DS has really liked the Thorton Burgess nature books, Swiss Family Robinson, Mark Twain, The Wind In The Willows, The Story of Dr. Doolittle, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and The Jungle Book, pretty much everything we've tried from Ambleside year 1 and 2, the Bobbsey Twins books. I'll edit if I think of any glaring omissions. These were all read-alouds or from LibriVox - he's not a great reader yet. But I'd expect he'll be able to manage most of these by the time he's 10-12. (Keeping an eye on the thread for more ideas for him!)

pageta
Understood Betsy (AO year 2) is about a girl but boys love it. Dr. Dolittle was a hit. Along Came a Dog was another hit. Pagoo, Tree in the Trail - both of those were treasures. All AO year 2 selections (regular or free reads). We're not yet halfway through year 2 so I can't speak for some of the rest of the selections.
